I grew up with movies like Home Alone, Ferris Bueller, Wierd Science, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, The Great Outdoors, Dutch, etc... John, thanks for writing/or directing those memories!

Hughes had a very weird career. Directs some of the 80s biggest movies then quits directing after 1991's Curly Sue. After that point he started writing some pretty crappy movies under the pen name Edmond Dantes. These movies included Beethoven and Drillbit Taylor. He also wrote Home Alone, Dennis the Menace, Baby's Day Out, Flubber, along with some other movies under his own name.

That's a tragedy. He did some of the most unforgetable movies of the eighties...and all time.

Very, very sad. He brought me so many laughs throughout my life. He will be missed. He died far to young.

Nobody made movies that defined my youth like John Hughes. I can quote Weird Science word for word begining to end. Goodbye and thanks.

That's too bad. It's never easy to lose someone in the business that has brought quality work to the screen. Thankfully they leave behind films that we can continue to enjoy for the rest of our lives.
