This news and the Apple news are great. If computers/laptops start coming standard with Blu Ray then that's a huge step forward.

A lot of us had predicted this as early as 2006. Toshiba could have saved themselves a lot of embarrassment.

Way back when, I was the first on this site to suggest that Sony "extend an olive branch" to Toshiba in an effort to get them to drop HD DVD and join the blu-ray camp to PREVENT a format war. I listed various reasons.

Not too long after I posted that thread, Sony did just that!

But Toshiba fired on a their white flag.

Now they are "salvaging" the technology by selling it in China and such.

When men wage war the guys with the biggest weapons don't always prevail as quickly or as efficiently as the guys with a production line of standard parts. I'm no history buff but I believe assembly lines and standard parts for rifles is what aided the Cival War. When you can't beat them, join them.

Maybe this will get the people still clinging to HD-DVD to finally by a BD player, since it will have the word TOSHIBA on it.

I doubt it. These people have a major Sony hate-on for some reason even though the BDA is not just Sony.

This is my thought exactly. I will be really excited to see Apple integrate BD into thier laptops.

So they officially decided to jump on the bandwagon. They didn't have much of a choice if they wanted to increase sales and avoid bankruptcy.
