Default Stanley Kubrick BDs....

So I haven't bought any of the one's released on bluray yet. I really want to, but I thought that there was word that they were releasing the boxset...what happened? I have the box set on DVD but I was hoping to upgrade. Did they not release it? Or maybe I just missed it? What's taking so long?!

I think the box set idea got scrapped, but "2001 ASO" is only 10.49 at Amazon, an awesome transfer and an awesome blu-ray disc! You won't be dissapointed!

You can pick up his films on BD for under $15 each almost anywhere. 2001 is $10.49 on Amazo and, EWS is $11.99. Shining and Clockwork are $14.99 at Target as well.

Oh, I know. I've heard nothing but greatness about it. I plan on owning it, but I was wanting the box set. That's why I waited so long.

So there's no boxset coming ever? That stinks. Aren't there some movies that haven't been released yet from the set. I don't remember seeing A Clockwork Orange...was that out?

Also...any word on if Lolita and Barry Lyndon are ever going to get a release?

No word on the box set, which is a disappointment because I'd like to have that Stanley Kubrick doc on the bonus disc in a Blu-Ray set. oh well, maybe Amazon has a few DVD copies for sale. I might go get one of those.

So far, the only Kubrick movies on Blu-Ray are Dr. Strangelove and the 5 from the DVD box set. No word on any of his other films getting the HD treatment yet. Spartacus got an HD-DVD release, but it's supposed to be a crappy transfer, so I'll be waiting for Criterion to put a Blu-Ray of it out.

I'm hoping they'll hurry up and start mastering his back catalogue for Blu, because I'd very much like to have Paths of Glory in glorious 1080p

Oh ok, so all five from the collection ARE out. I guess I'll have to get on those then. I already have Dr. Strangelove.

I'd love to get Spartacus (if you can qualify that as Stanley Kubrick's). I do hope Criterion releases that one though.

You're preaching to the converted there.

Spartacus and Ben Hur will be day one purchases for me.

No doubt. Ben Hur would be amazing on Bluray. Imagine 70mm's of hi-def baby. Yummy.

What about Barry Lyndon and Lolita??? Wy those titles haven't been released on BD by Warner??
Barry Lyndon is one of Kubrick's best films and I am sure it would look fantastic on HD since Barry Lyndon is perhaps the most 'beautiful' film ever shot by Kubrick. Each frame is composed like a painting by Vermeer, Goya, Watteau, etc.
Lolita in the other hand is not amongst Kubrick's best works, but it's a decent film. Besides any movie featuring Peter Sellers and James Mason, can't be bad.

Kubrick films yet to be released on BD:

Killer's Kiss, The Killing, Paths of Glory (MGM)
Barry Lyndon, Lolita (Warner)
Spartacus (Universal? Criterion? Both?)
Fear and Desire: only available online or/and bootlegs.

i own all the currently available kubkick blus and they all have very suitable PQ/AQ (some are definitely stronger than others)....more importantly, they all are great movies imo so even if they aren't all up to par technically, it's still a joy owning them all on blu.

still waiting for barry lyndon and especially spartacus...

I want Lolita now!! And I don't mean that in a dirty old man kind of way...

The Kubrick movies released so far looks amazing on Blu-ray, and 2001: A Space Odyssey is still my prefered disc for showing disbelievers in the format just how amazing older moevies can look on Blu-ray.

Warner need to get 'Barry Lyndon' onto BD urgently. The present DVD edition isn't even anamorphic! What are they waiting for - Christmas? (Come to think of it, that wouldn't be a bad idea.)

I love Barry Lyndon as well.

I can see why some don't like it, with its distasteful protagonist.

In a Warner Chat they said they had no current plans for a Blu-ray Barry Lyndon release.

Very sad.

the lighting in that film was done using real candles, that is why it looks so authentic and painting-like. apparently the candles made some of the shots so hot that the makeup on the actors started to melt, imagine how uncomfortable it mush have been while wearing all those layers of ruffles and clothing.

I read this in a Kubrick biography

I've been waiting so long for it. It never even got a re-release with the Kubrick dvd boxset in '08. I quickly sold it because I bought a blu-ray player. Leon Vitali plays the young Lord Bullington who was also the mysterious man in the "red cloak" in EWS.

Put me down for another one who can't wait for Ben-Hur. I think it's coming next year. At least that's been the rumor.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think there was ever any official announcement or even insider rumor that a box set was being released on Blu-ray. At best, I think that was simply hopeful fan speculation. There's no reason not to buy the currently-available Kubrick BDs. They're all excellent and most are reasonably priced.
