Default The Beast...Avoid like the plague!

Always thought this was a pretty entertaining made for TV movie. Was looking forward to the Blu, had a great pre order price on Amazon. Checked it last night and it is by far the worst picture quality I have ever seen on a Blu Ray. It does not even remotely look like HD. You have been warned.

Never heard of it.

Unless it's that sort of Jaws-type movie.. is that the one?

Edit - Looked it up ... yep that's the one. At least the cover art is sort of nice looking.

sorry you got burned on this title-- I read a review on it from DVD Beaver
if I remember correctly-- they said it looks like a mediocre quality dvd!!

why do studios waste everybodies time and $$ releasing subpar garbage
like this when the potential is to make every doubledip or new purchase
something amazing

Yeah, this release is a joke.

Crazy long TV miniseries on a single BD-25 was the first warning. Booted it up, it's in 720p, not 1080i/p, so I immediately lowered my expectations further. They were still not low enough. Even for 720p, this looked TERRIBLE. Upscaled DVDs are better than this, no joke - I don't mean the best of the best for upscaled DVDs, I mean most any upscaled DVDs. The aliasing alone is enough to hate this release - everything is covered in stair-stepping jaggies. This is the absolute worst Blu-ray release I have ever seen.

It was a terrible movie, I had no intentions of wasting cash on it, but thanks for the heads up about quality.

Not one of Peter Benchley's better stories. Sorry, but giant squids are just not scary.
I'll stick to Peter Benchley's better stories to movies, Jaws and The Deep.

I remember watching this on VHS when I was a kid - shame that this release doesn't look much better than that

"Even for 720p" ... that's pretty funny. I'll bet if you were lined up in front of two TVs that were 720 and 1080 you couldn't tell one from the other.

What about The Island, with Michael Caine? Great book and pretty good movie. Of Course it didn't have Jacqueline Bisset in a wet t-shirt...

Watching a 720p source on a 1080p TV is different from watching a 1080p source on a 720p TV.

Resurrecting an old thread here.....

So I remember loving this when I was a 9 year old and recording the original broadcast on VHS

Seems that everyone is in agreement that the picture quality is horrible, but seeing as how this seems to be the only way to own the original full broadcast version I'm going to order it!

Hope I like it as a 24 yr old as much as I liked it as a 9 year old.......
