yes got to see this the other night... wasn't that great of a movie, but i guess for an independent flick it wasn't too bad. We didn't think it was actually scary though. PQ & AQ wise PQ wasn't great but i'm sure it kicked the dvd's ass :-P. AQ was really nice and helped the atmosphere of the film. all and all i kinda wish we didn't buy the thing lol.

I think maybe we were expecting too much. We recently saw the film End Of The Line which was a very nice independent film that we purchased from canada, its only on DVD but it really was a good one that kicked plague town!!!

I saw it premier at a horror convention a few months back. If you like low budget cheesy flicks it is alright.

I am glad I didn't buy it. I got the DVD from Netflix the BD was too long of a wait and I thought it was going to be good. I wouldn't say it was terrible, but it wasn't too imaginative either. Not much is explained as to why these people in this town are in the situation they are in. I don't want to say too much and end up spoiling it, not that it would make much difference if you knew anything about it. Just wait for it from Netflix.

Default V bad movie imho

Just watched this. Very disappointing flick. The opening scene is intriguing. But then it heads sharply downhill. By about the 40 min. mark the suspense is all gone and the movie degenerates into pure slashing.

Even as a slasher though this is pretty bad, nowhere near as good as the classic slashers like the original Nightmare on Elm St or the first two Fri. 13th films. For one thing there's no proper villain. And the film doesn't have much structure. The slashing is all random off-the-cuff stuff. Pretty pointless.

Add to this the inexplicable casting and amateurish cinematography and you've got my #1 Disappointing Indie Horror film for 2009.

For some good recent indie horror on Blu try House of the Devil, Flesh for the Beast, The Signal or The Children.

Just watched this, good idea ruined by pretty much everything else.
Good gore effects, decent pacing, decent atmosphere, that's about it for the good. The worst part, for me, was the editing. My goodness what a mess. Also had a few good laughs, unintentional. It was a blind buy, but at least I paid under $5 for it.

Now featuring an uncensored HD master of PLAGUE TOWN? Was the first blu-ray release from DarkSky cut?

This is what I've been wondering, as well. It looks as though the film was originally 88 minutes on the German uncut dvd, and possibly the Canadian blu ray (odd, and possibly a misprint, because EOne usually just ports over the usa transfer), which is also the run-time that Severin is now reporting for their new "uncut, unrated" disc slated to release tomorrow. The DarkSky USA dvd and blu ray (I have their 2009 blu ray here) are 85 minutes and 5 seconds, which includes about 5 minutes of run-time for the closing credits.

Assuming this is correct, is Severin's transfer or encode going to be any different? Is it worth $23 to see 3 more minutes? I'll look into this more closely after the Severin disc releases.

The gore seems pretty blatant and in-tact on the 2009 blu. I can't imagine it was edited for that. It would be hilarious if the DarkSky transfer had deliberately chopped out 3 more solid minutes of the two ultra-annoying daughters bickering with each other ad nauseum, and Severin left it in for the new disc.

The new "uncut" Severin release just dropped to $19 on Amazon. Ordered it, couldn't help myself. I just HAVE to know. Worst case, I'm still okay simply adding a second copy to the film library. It should arrive in a couple of days and I'll be able to compare it to my 2009 blu directly, which was a $5 cutout bin special. Can't beat that with a stick.

This movie is a total wreck of a mess, and I see why its amateurish, disjointed nature would be a put-off for many folks, but I still enjoy it more than I should for some reason. It's actually grown on me. The atmosphere is pretty good, the gore effects are really solid, and the assaults are just so mean-spirited. It's all filmed very matter-of-factly. I mean,
[Show spoiler]where else can you see someone's mom get shame-schooled in the face about fifteen times in a row, slowly and deliberately, with a large metal hubcap, until DRT. And who WOULDN'T want a solid gang-spanking with leafy branches? (more surreal WTF). Plenty of brutal assaults by super-creepy deformed undead kids using jagged broken glass, large kitchen utensils, etc. Very creepy images of ghoulish beasties with carved-up faces, folks walking around with their cheek blown half-off from a close-range shotgun blast....
all on display with graphic close-ups, in an effective low-light style that keeps anything from looking overly fake or wonky. In this rare instance, I am able to look past the typical trite banter and annoying characters, and just revel in the spooky, bizarre mayhem. YMMV.
