How you connect A/V Receiver for PC use?

My pc don't had hdmi plug, just dvi, 5.1 component audio, and optical audio cable port. Does av receiver help sound in pc? is not coming from soundcard or motherboard right?

Run a toslink from the PC to the receiver.

i used the optical port on my pc for dd 5.1 from blu rays for a little while. just had to make sure to configure the options on the pc for the optical port and the receiver did the rest. but it did sound much better
