I see a lot of mention of various models, etc... and I don't really know anything about any of them other than the "usual suspects"
Can someone tell me if there are any reasons to avoid this one? For $1,000 it seems like a good deal to me.... Is the model number something they changed for "Costco Only" and is it a model I may already be aware of???? I was thinking of buying it sight-unseen http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...rodid=11474869 |

The S14 is a warehouse-only model. Based on what I and others have found, it seems to be last year's panel and possibly some electronics in this year's S1-series frame.
S14 has a PC input - S1 does not. S14 has 900 lines of motion resolution. S1 is full 1080. S14 is listed @ 30,000:1 cr - S1 is 40,000:1. Those are the noteworthy differences. If your budget is $1000, you can't go wrong here. However, the G10 can be had for about $300 more. |

Looks like it doesn't support 24p either. Horses for courses I know but worth mentioning.

Here's a comparison that shows it next to the S1 - its closest sibling.
Good catch on the 24p mode. Also looks like it lacks 'Game Mode' (compared to the S1), for what it's worth. Stepping to the S1 only gets you 24p compatibility in the form of 3:2 pulldown, though...no 48Hz refresh. Have to jump to the G10 & up for that. Gradient is lower too. It doesn't have the Neo PDP panel. Last edited by xneox; 08-18-2009 at 02:43 PM. |

The beauty with Costco, though, is that you can get the set and 'audition' it for 90 days. If you don't like it or find something better, then simply return it with no questions asked. I LOVE Costco's return policy. They even take back food if you don't like it!

Yeah...plus their 'Costco Concierge' extends the warranty to TWO years...that's pretty sweet.

For an extra $29, you don't even have to go pick it up.
