If the lamp actually exploded... this could be some type of damage from that. That is just a complete and total guess though. Is the replacement the official recomended part?

I have the same TV, and after a couple of years, I had a red spot in the center of the screen (apparently, this happens to all 50V500s eventually). The light engine did not have proper ventilation (it is a design defect) and it was gradually overheating. I replaced the light engine and everything was fine. Still on the original bulb, though! I would say the problem is most likely the light engine in the TV, not the bulb.

Check this link. I did a google search, and apparently Hitachi is being sued in Dallas over this design defect.

I heard a pop and later when I pulled the housing out there was glass inside the bulb, but it didn't appear that glass went anywhere else,I couldn't tell at least if any went inside the tv.It is really noticeable in bright outdoor scenes. Is there any troubleshooting I can do to see if there is any other damage? I got the part from Discount tv lamps.com,and they had replacement for part number UX21511.
