Default Raging Bull transfer has a major visual flaw

I recently purchased "Raging Bull" (awesome movie) on Blu-ray and finally got around to watching it tonight. Unfortunately I discovered my copy's transfer is botched with a major visual flaw. About a fourth way in from the right side of the screen there is a few inch wide bright vertical bar present throughout the entire movie. At first I thought my television's display was starting to go bad but when paused you can tell it's apart of the picture. I also tested out other color and black & white movies, video games, etc and it's only present during "Raging Bull". The internet only yielded one report of this issue, but it's the exact same issue so I know it's a real problem...
http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article...ew-raging-bull (first paragraph)
...I was surprised not to find a thing here on the forums or any word of Fox releasing a press statement or having a replacement program. I reported the issue to Fox through http://www.foxstore.com/contact.html so I'll report if they're replacing these bad copies, assuming they have good copies.

In the meantime, has this been an issue for any one else? Hasn't any one bothered watching their copy of "Raging Bull"? Or am I in the unlucky minority?

Note: UPC 839041351480; purchased through Amazon ten days ago.

It's the same. I think you only count the large digits, or at least that's how Fox's website wanted it.

Mine has the same flaw. There was a thread about this a while back and some people saw the bar and some didn't.

I watched this disc a few months back and didn't notice anything weird. I thought the PQ was pretty great.

My only complaint with the raging Bull bluray is that the clour seemes really washed out, at most point its almost grey and black

I think it's supposed to look worn, dated. You can even hear this intention in the audio with the gritty phonograph sounding theme. "Raging Bull" with bright clean crisp vivid white on pitch black would look too flawless and modernized--the movie would loose so much atmosphere, you would be removed from the experience. At least that's my two cents.

Is it possible that people who have overscan aren't able to see this bar? I don't have the movie (yet) so I can't test it, but it sounds like that might be what's happening.

He said it's like a quarter of the way from the right side of the screen. That would be one hell of an overscan.

No. The vertical bar is around a fourth way in (toward the center) from the right side of the screen. Overscan would only shroud the very outer edges of the screen.

Sorry missed that... Although one time I did have a sony CRT set with about 15% overscan on each side. I didn't realize it until the end credits of a movie rolled and almost all the names were cut off. Even my last SXRD set had close to 5% which is not that good.

But yeah, that wouldn't be what it is.

When I rented it and watched it on my old LCD, I saw it as well. I'm wondering if some people have heir brightness way turned down and don't see it.

You are correct. Thats what makes Scorsese the best film maker in the world IMO. Whenever he makes a movie he films in a way in which you actually beleive you are in that time period. Raging Bull and The Aviator are good examples of this.
