Default I want a feature to turn off trophies

I only get the ones I get on the way of completing a game. I don't go out of my way to get them. Therefore, I don't see how much I missed and get all bothered about missing 10 trophies, I can just go on my merry way and be happy. I might also be able to play without a beep telling me that I got a trophy I had no idea I was getting.

I vote for an "opt out" of trophies. I think its silly that you have to participate by default.

I know I know, your just going to say that its harm being there. But Psychologically it does things to you.. Seriously.

You're not the only one. Others have said that they want to have the option to delete trophies.

I would just be satisfied if they implemented a thing where we could delete the demos we've downloaded out of our downloaded thing in PSN, or perhaps be able to group them into demos, Full Games, DLC so that way we could find stuff easier.

I have about 150 items in the DL thing, and I'm sure others have way more than that.

There's already a feature for that. You can sort your demos and full games into folders.

Edit: Nevermind. I missed the PSN part. I never use that thing enough.

Well, if you don't want Trophies popping up, you could always take a step back into the last generation and buy a Wii.

On a more serious note, I'm 100% sure that trophies (like the Xbox 360 Achievements they mimic) produce more sales on games, so I sincerely doubt you'll see them go away any time soon.

Turning them off would sort of break the functionality of the whole Compare Trophies command on PSN as well, so I doubt Sony will ever give an opt-out for it (and can you imagine the headaches their customer service will have if people start calling in and claiming that they achieved X trophy but their little brother turned off trophy collection?).

Sure, Trophies are somewhat intrusive the way they're implemented right now, but they sort of have to be to do what they're supposed to, which is give you more incentives to continue playing a game, for a minimal investment in development time.

Icemage is bang on the money with that statement I highlighted. The trophies serve a purpose of allowing for replayablility for a title. Even if YOU (the OP) don't see a point in them, many others will come to find that they will be able to "get more for their money" by being able to someday play the game again from a different tactical perspective in order to complete more trophies. Trophies are only 80% bragging rights tools. The other 20% actually serve a logical purpose from a consumer/gamer perspective.

Thanks to trophies, I've quadrupled the value of most of my collection.

can someone explain to me how difficult it would be for Sony to implement something in the PSN store to allow you to either remove items from your downloaded list, or at least group them in sections under "Demos" "DLC" "Unlock Keys" "Full Games" or whatever?

How difficult is this? Am I asking for something that's beyond the realm of possibility here?

And if not, how do we go about asking someone who's got the authority to at least bring that to the attention of whoever would be able to do that?

Because I'm sure I'm not the only one who is just flat out frustrated by it.

I actually set up a secondary account to sort of start anew because it was full of demos and crap, and then of course ...me being me...ended up downloading demos and stuff on THIS account, and well....I'm back at square one. ha ha

I think most users would settle for the option to just turn off the notification that pops up in game.

I wish I could turn off notifications that friends are getting on and off line sometimes. It bugs me.

Trophies can also be used as tools in a game that requests you to find "treasures." I can see trophies being pretty useful in a game like sayyyy Final Fantasy here pretty soon (I can't friggin wait!); certain trophies that require you to collect special items could be critical to the gameplay/story.

Besides...it greatly enlarges my e-peen

I agree with the OP. I do not care about trophies. I take my time with games, I'm not a heavy gamer. But yet when people compare my trophies with theirs they are probably thinking "Oh he is a rubbish gamer". I think it gives a false impression. Like the OP, I enjoy my gaming, but I do not have the need to hunt down every trophy. I would very much like an option to disable them.

Trophies have changed the way I play games, I used to just blast through games one after the other on normal as there was no reason to do anything else with them, once they were done I'd only go back if I really enjoyed playing about in the game world, now I find myself going back again and again with every game, playing through each a number of times on every difficulty and playing in ways I never would have thought of without trophies.

I don't collect multiplayer trophies but others do so I just accept that they are there, just like people should just accept that trophies are here whether you like them or not :P
There should be an option to turn of the prompts as I can see how they could be annoying but deactivating trophies completely shouldn't really matter if you really don't care about them.

I look at people with low a low trophy count and don't really care, you realise that some people just don't want to collect trophies, it's the other trophy hunters that you see can't beat zico in wipeout or something that's when the bragging starts and you can call them rubbish.
Still it's your game, you paid for it and it's up to you how you want to use it so screw what everyone else thinks about it.

nah trophies relating to storyline are usually hidden, I'm guessing there will be ones relating to collecting legendary weapons. The trophies that work the best are the ones that let you know about gamplay mechanics you wouldn't think off otherwise, some people who play FF games don't even know about the tons of extra stuff you can do so yeah these trophies will be class!

Agreed but usually in story-driven games like RPGs would be like find 100 treasure boxes, see the true ending, complete a quest, watch this event, reach level 50, and so on. There is however ones like Cross Edge that are like obtain every item, do 1,000,000 damage, do a 400-hit combo, defeat this many enemies, and so on. But I also do love these trophies so that I can have a purpose to play the game again and again instead of just letting my game collect dust as soon as I am done with it.

Excellent post, that pretty much sums it up!

Each to their own I guess.. When I look at some trophy list they range from the normal to the bizarre - some are just ridiculous - but if it adds to people's enjoyment then fair enough!

I think you can turn that off, it's in the settings bar somewhere... sorry that's not overly helpful!

As for the OP's rant on trophies, if you don't care about them, then it's pretty easy not to look at them. Just don't go to the trophy icon in the XMB. Plus, a little icon in the top corner every so often and one tiny little "bling" sound is pretty easy to ignore....

can't wait to see the trophies, haven't played a RPG with trophies yet, FF and white knight chronicles are two I really want. I guess the trophies are harder in RPGs as they reward the hardcore fans, I usually get everything in the FF games anyway, I remember in FFX I completely filled up tidus, waka and Auron's sphere grids and that was before trophies even came out XD
