Default Able to turn off/delete Trophies?

I searched and couldn't find anything, my apologies if already addressed. Is there any way to turn off and/or delete trophies. I don't care to replay games from the start just for the sake of getting trophies and not exactly thrilled with getting a half baked mix of trophies while continuing with existing games (i.e. got a trophy for going through a repair shop in Burnout even though I've already obtained my Burnout license and won't get all the major trophies without starting over). I have no problem with trophies if its a new game and they are available from the start.

Trophies are there for everyone. Use them if you want or don't "care" if you want.

You can't delete them. Just don't play the games (like you already said). Simple enough.

Actually im there with you wish there was a way to turn them off .

Course my reasons is im not that competative and I totally hate the idea of gaming turning into comparing sizes.. I play games for the fun, thats why I started, to remove stress and to escape.. and now that escape has been threatened greatly....

I dont understand the problem? If you dont care for them then dont worry about them. They aret intrusive and how you play the game is not changed due to it having trophies. If you get one by accident then you will get a 3 second notification and you can ignore it.

Whats the big deal that they need an "off switch"?

There should be a way to hide certain trophies, I don't want my real life friends to know that I've played Eye of Judgment or something like that, street cred you know?

It's more of a personal psychological problem than anything else.

They feel inadequate for some reason. Most adults don't really care if someone else has a trophy/achievement or not. It's just a friendly thing. As for kids, well, kids will be kids.

Time to call in Dr. Phil.

Hahaha.

This is the most valid reason for disabling trophies I've heard yet. =P

I can understand the annoyance at lack of retroactive trophies though. It is super lame when they introduce trophies 6 months after the game has been out and then you get this random "patch work" of trophies. I don't mean that as a competitive thing. I mean this as an OCD thing.

Okay how about just not notifying you, that thing turns into a blind spot too easily, and im sorry I have this thing where I do not like anything interfering with my escape, ive always been deeply concerned with things breaking the flow, or simply something grabbing attention from the game itself.

Im also easily distracted hahaha.

Now back to my other worries...

I also worry people are starting to lose the site on whats fun.. reading the threads ever day about not playing xyz game because it does not support trophies it just sounds like people are losing sight on what they miss, the
experience the friendship and the fun.

So let me ask when I shut my eyes when did gaming turn into who's is bigger, what happened to play for the fun, when did stats and leader boards digital numbers held more value then the fun in the game.

Maybe im just from a lost era, but none of that really goes towards any real goal unless people have come to the time in which they have created goals for accomplishing something in a specific way... I just don't get it.

Perhaps ive lost sight, perhaps gaming is no longer about fun, but stat farming, maybe that is the purpose in gaming.. oh how blind ive been...

Whos to say going after and obtaining trophies isnt fun to people? I know it is to me. I dont ignore the core gameplay just to get trophies, its a supplement to the game Im playing.

As for notifications...do you have the notifications for when people sign on and off.... on?

For me the way I see it, I play the game (no mater if there is trophy or not) and once I'm done with it I try to get them... I see them a little bit like side missions.

Even before trophies there were plenty of games with medals bonus. The only difference is now you can sum them from all games you've played

It is a nice, fun bonus to a game.

Think of trophies as "side missions" in a game. It's bonus content.

At the end of the day, if you don't like trophies, don't worry about it. Seems pretty simple.

Well, I'd say about 1991 or so. All the consoles have been doing is trying to become more like PC gaming, which has been doing these things (ladders, leader boards, stats, etc) for ages now.

I get what you're saying, and it would be a shame if a game came out now and people automatically dismissed it because it lacked trophy support - and missed out on a well made game. Or, getting a game ONLY because it supports trophies.

Not much can be done about that now.

As for me personally, I didn't think I would care about these when they first came out, and it turns out I was right.

I personally don't care about finding every single treasure in Drake's Fortune, or spending hours trying to get that last Stardust trophy, or NOT playing the game and waiting for specific circumstances to get that elusive Warhawk trophy.

I just play the games, I get the trophies through normal gameplay - or not at all - and it doesn't bother me if I have more or less than anyone else, because I honestly don't care.

However, I can definitely see someone finding these items to be like a fun side game.

In the end, I think their more good than they are bad - and easily ignored for those who don't care for them.

I'm not sure what lost era of gaming you may be from but it must pre-date early 1980s arcade games. The old arcade games had high score boards and I was always thrilled when I could score well enough to get on the board and input my 3 letter signature (young'ens today are spoiled with their fancy screen names).

Though I am with you in that, for me, enjoying the gameplay has a greater value than getting a high score or a trophy. However, those things are sometimes a nice perk that can provide incentive to revisit a game I've already enjoyed.

If you want to see some folks who are nuts about getting high scores, check out the excellent documentary The King of Kong (on DVD but not on blu, unfortunately).

I was playing Linger in Shadows last night because it was a visually beautiful game. Got 3 trophies for doing nothing more than playing around in the game and didn't even know what I got the trophies for. I think if people go into a game KNOWING that the game has trophies, then they will have that expectation of earning something for doing something in the game and then getting disappointed.

Best thing to do? Don't even open the Trophies icon on the XMB, it helps considerably on the psychological level. And ignore the trophies discussions on the forums if you don't like 'em

I think I was just getting disillusioned from reading playstation underground threads about dont buy game xyz it has no trophys and coming hear reading topics with "no trophys = no buy"

Things like that just created even more negative feelings, about it.. I dunno but alot of people have given up on alot of fun games and I just do not get it.

True but they never really broke the immersion of the game, me personally im really into immersion the feel the flow, and really I don't want something nagging on me that breaks that flow.

And yes im a person that at times can dedicate hours to adjusting screen size for what I consider maximum pixel usage on computer monitors and one lost black pixel pisses me off, I consider that probably not normal but that is who I am.

True as that may seem it still breaks down and pulls you and reminds you that your just playing a game, I would not be so bothered if they found a different way to notify you, such as linger, what they did is they awarded you all of them once you finished the playthrough.. which by performing it that way the immersion is not broken.

Of course the most annoying is having 30 people sign in and out, sign in and out in some sick loop that just makes me pause the game and wait till everyone is normalized.. haha

Well the thing is when I played UT nothing forced me to see any of that, I played UT for fun, once the match was over it was over, the fun of playing with some of the crazy mods and mutators... sometimes I was more pushed to play single player.

Of course I spent 5 hours trying to find a person on a single map *everything bugged out something weird happened* we could talk to each other but no one could find each other huge cavern the size of a city, we eventually gave up. The person was named Lost, on heavy gear 2.

CYMBOL, you are one of the few that I totally understand, and ive always deeply respected you, your insight has always been logical and refreshing.

Perhaps I should just let it go, Sometimes I think I care too much...

Well when me and my buds went to the arcade we never went for high scores our goal was to either beat the game, or play till we run out of quarters.

I was actually born in 1984.. so I dunno maybe im just anomalie

something like that happened to me as well except I was mildly angry and started to shake my fist at the screen then I sighed, and my friend told me I stole 10 minutes from his life that he will never get back. Then I was sad.
