Default Backing Up PS3 Data and External Hard Drives

Like many of you, I chose to buy the new 120gb PS3. I currently have a BC 80gb that gets a heavy workout and in order to save some energy and put a furnace in my bedroom, I will probably be moving the 80 in there and using the new one as my mainstay.

Can I format a partition of an external in FAT and plug that straight into my PS3? All I have is a 4gb USB thumbdrive and I want to back up a lot more of my data at one time. I am currently using Windows 7 Professional and all I can see is exFAT or the usual NTFS file system and have no idea what the hell I'm doing.

What's the best way to solve my dilemma?

You'll need to format your external drive as FAT32 (I am unsure how the PS3 will handle it if you cut it up into multiple partitions). Since Windows will not format large volumes in FAT32, you'll need a third party app like this:
