I posted a while back about utilizing my son's PS3 for blu-ray movies. I used the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV, and, per suggestions, connected an optical cable from the player to my Denon AVR-3805. I connected it to the "opt4" location, then went in to my setup and configured the "digital in" so that my "v.aux" utilized the opt4 input.
When I power up the PS3, and switch to v.aux on the amp, it runs through its checks, detects (through the "auto" function) a digital signal, flashes "opt4", then the "PCM" light comes on the amp face. I have no sound at all. On my amp, the left side of the display shows what type of input signal it is receiving, while the right displays output. It doesn't appear to be reading (or deciphering) the audio signal. Any suggestions? Greg |

Did you adjust the sound settings in the PS3 to output via optical rather than HDMI? The PCM light kind of confirms it's not seeing a signal, since you can't send PCM via optical. Or, are you trying to play a movie with PCM sound? If that's the case, switch to Dolby Digital or some non-uncompressed track and see if that works.

Actually, you can send PCM through optical. Just not anything higher than 2.0... And if the PCM light lights up, that doesn't mean that it's not recieving a signal... But I would try to see if the audio out on the PS3 is set to optical, I don't have a PS3 (yet) so I really can't help to much. But I do know you can send PCM 2.0 through optical and that seeing PCM lit up on your reciever doesn't mean that it's not recieving a signal.

Gotcha.....
Son is in the middle of "Darkness" on PS3, so I can't try it yet. But I'll have him do it shortly. Thanks for all the quick responses. G |
