Default Disky76's Cinema - A Novelist's perspective on Blu-Ray

Dear Ones,

I have decided, after much debate in my mind, to post my Home Theatre. I don't usually post pics of my personal space online for all to see, but the side of me that wants to "put a little of me there" for people to see has won over.

I am a novelist, and I am focusing most on writing and getting published rather than Blu-Ray, but I still have a passion for my hobby. I grew up in a house with a home theatre, my father still has a dedicated theatre to this day - but I am the sole member of the family who has delved into Front Projection.

I started with humble beginnings, years ago, with an RCA CRT 25" and a HTiB system, and now I have grown to Hi-Def Front Projection system that I love and cherish.

I watch movies, all the time, as research for my novels. I study pacing, character development, and dialogue. I analyze the plots, and consider my work when watching films.

I follow the Oscars religiously.

I watch films to appreciate acting at its finest, artful cinematography, and masterful Directing.

The future of Blu-Ray?

I think that Blu-Ray is here, for at least 10 years or so. I have always loved Laserdisc, and still do. I still have two Laserdisc players that I attempt to use every so often. Blu-Ray is astounding. The quality is almost TOO GOOD.

I am a Cinephile, always have been, and will let you know that DVD's most emulate film on a projector. Blu-Ray's are fantastic and the wave of the future - but their quality really does surpass film.

Anyway, please take a look at my gallery. It is homemade, and from the heart. No professional theatre here. But I have a passion for my hobby, a passion for films, and I want to see them how the Director intended. That is why I got into Front Projection.

I installed a 100" Draper 16:9 screen, and built DIY masking panels to mask down the screen to 92" for 2.35:1 material. NO BLACK BARS EVER!!! The panels are adjustable from 2.20-2.40:1.

The theatre is decorated with dark chocolate drapes, statues from Greek Mythology, and Egyptian art. It really is quite beautiful - I wish my camera could show you more.

Whatever, my pics are there for you to see. It's Disky's passionate cinema, High Definition and Front Projection yes - but truly a Cinephile's Home Theatre at its heart.

yeah..... I'm shy too

I posted a comment, but will ask here....

You said the front row was 10' and the back was 12-13' I can't imagine the back row would have ANY leg-room..... are you saying the leading edge of the back row is 2-3' from the back of the front row seating? Seems like it's right on top of each other...... I'd think "head-to-head" would be at least 5' apart..... wouldn't it?

The back row is not very far from the front - but the back row is a couch with oversized Ottomans - so plenty of room to spread out. Usually, we fall asleep in front of movies in our Cinema. I have been accused of making it too comfortable.

Again, it's homemade - and the footage, with the exception of the projector's throw - is estimated. I will also say that the ottomans for the back row are right up against the backs of the overstuffed chaise lounges in the front row. So is there an "aisle" between rows 1 and 2?

Not really.

I will try to take a pic that illustrates what I am saying in a few days.
