Default Box Office Mojo high-def poll; vote for Blu!

A poll at Box Office Mojo shows that not many people in general have moved to an HD player. Here are the results:

What type of high definition video player do you use?
69.2% None
17.5% HD-DVD
10.1% Blu-ray
3.1% Both
2,146 users polled.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/polls/

What would be interesting to see now is how those numbers change over the next 6 month to a year. The funny thing is, people who go see a lot of movies and then complain about the price of a player or buying the movies don't quite know how to do math. Now you can get an HD player for under $500, so that would be about 50 movie tickets. Some folks do that in probably less than a year. And then with a BB online account you can get many many HD movies a month for about $10, the cost of 1 ticket.

Well the Blu-ray numbers are lower because people who have Blu-ray would rather sit at home and watch their gorgeous movies. At least that's my interpretation. :-)

I wonder if people mistook their upconverting DVD players as HD DVD players . . . seeing as how people buy HD DVD's instead of regular DVD's on accident, I wouldn't put it past them.

^ True

Last movie I saw in theatre was 300 and I kept thinking how much better this will look at home in BLU! I'd rather wait for movies to be released on BD nowadays although I've been told to see Transformers on the big screen while I can...

Exactly. Don't want to spend $10 to sit next to noisy people and stand in line and pay $4 for a soda, when I can sit at home in a comfy chair and watch a Blu-ray on my TV with any food or beverage I choose. Not to mention I can watch the movie any time I want and it doesn't require me driving to a theatre.

Oh but I can't see "new" movies. Who cares, does a movie get worse when you see it a few months later on disc?

Family of 4 trip to the movies: $40
Sodas and popcorn at the movies: $48
Sticky floors, long lines, and noisy people: No extra charge.
Watching beautiful Blu-ray movies in the comfort of my own home? PRICELESS.

it used to be more inviting, when all you had at home was a 20'' TV maybe with stereo tinny speakers and crappy VHS tapes to see a movie on a big screen wtih THX. But not you can see a movie on a big screen (in HD) with THX or Dolby Digital at home, and the viewing distance is optimized for you and the sound is optimized for you and the movie starts whenever you want. Just harder and harder to justify going to any movie except the truly exceptional. And I agree, the last few times I have thought while in a theater that the movie would actually look better and sharper and brighter on my TV. Seems like about half the movies in theaters are improperly focused by the "projectionist" aka 14 year old geek making minimum wage.
