Question Amadeus Digibook: Collector's Item?

With the release of a bare-bones Amadeus blu-ray, do you guys think that the digibook edition could become oop and scarce enough to become collector's item? I was thinking of buying a couple and stashing them away for future trading purposes...

Not likely because the only difference is a digital copy (which expires sooner than the likelihood of that ever happening). Although it is cheaper than the plastic case version right now on Amazon. So if anyone wants the book version now's a good time.

...Booklet and Soundtrack CD sampler are also part of the Digibook release.

I don't think there is much of a collectors market for digi books. In fact most disk media are worthless as collectables. It is only when/if the Blu ray of the film itself goes oop that it might become valuable.

I disagree completely. Regardless of the product mentioned, in this case it's digi-books, there are always people with an interest in those products. At the moment, becauce they are not OOP, there isn't much value to them. In time however, and when they do go OOP, they will definately go up in value.

In the case of the Amadeus Digi-book BD release, it isn't only BD owners and collectors with an interest in OOP releases. Someone who is a classical fan, and perhaps a Mozart fan specifically, will want to eat up anything related to it. And that includes Digi-books. Does that mean they will rise significantly in value? Maybe! Maybe not! Only time will tell, but Digi-books are as much a collectable as any other OOP media.

Of course IF the actual BD goes out of print (as I said that in my original post) the value will go up. But if just the digibooks go out of print.... Well I have been collecting DVD's since they first came out and this doesn't ring true to my experience. As long as the content is available on an equivalent quality disk - most disk media will end up worthless $wise.

Agreed. Disc media is pretty worthless as far as re-sale goes. Just like my baseball cards

No need to tell them anything now. Those people are gonna feel pretty foolish in about 5 years when they are worth less than $20 a piece.

I agree with you, there is really no market for digi books, its a waste of time to begin with.

I think there will a rare handful of DVD/BD's that may increase in value. But it is very limited. Amadeus? Doubt it.

I do know that the original first pressing of Little Shop of Horrors on DVD goes for around $500 bucks currently. They pulled it after (I believe) David Geffen recalled them as he did not want the alternate ending included after all.

Oh, please. The highest that is going for now is about $40. The people who bought it at $500 are idiots. DVD and blu-ray are hardly rare collector's items....

Oh please yourself. I saw it listed online. But yes, praying on the ignorant seems to push capitalism to new heights.

I can list things too. That doesn't mean it's selling for that much. The highest I've seen it *actually* sell for in the past 2 years is $69.

There's little or no long term value in most of these types of things. Wouldn't bother getting it unless you want your own copy of it.

I wasn't thinking on them increasing in price and get an early retirement from it.
I just wanted to know if their desirability would increase in time to get a better trade from them.

As far as Digibook collectability goes, I plan on getting all digibook releases, even if I don't like the movie very much.
And I'm sure I'm not alone on this.

I have sold OOP dvds on ebay for more than $150. I have a few (namely The Apu trilogy) I thought about unloading, but in this economy even those aren't selling.

Remember the original 1998 Criterion "Salo" going for megabucks back in the day(up to $1000 for a copy), since there is a new reissue from Criterion ,now it's worth very little. There are some OOP Criterion, Disney and Anchor Bay DVD's that are on the rare side, even these are'nt for the most part bringing in the big bucks like they used to, people have wisened up!

I remember that very well. And I thought the same thing then, that I think now. Those people were idiots, and their Salo DVDs would be worthless in a few years time...
