Doesn't say the codec used for audio/video, but most likely it will be AVC with either TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. Most likely these will use the same masters as the French/UK versions (since they list the Gaumont trademark).

Wow, those do look pretty great. I might actually consider getting these. I'll wait for a review before that though. I've yet to buy these films.

Updated the specs (they finally posted the correct audio specs). Also appears Leon is only the international cut and does not contain the theatrical cut.

Leon now only has a TrueHD 5.0 track.

Japan Fifth Element

Specs:
Quote:
Video: 1080p AVC 2.35:1
Audio: English TrueHD 5.1, Japanese DD 5.1
Subs: Japanese Subs
BD: BD50
Time: 126 mins
Region:Region A, B(?), C(?)
Sampled a bit of it. PQ is ever so slightly improved over the US version. I also like the audio better on the Japan version (it sounds warmer and clearer than the US version). Bitrate seems to hover in the 30s. Overall, I prefer this much more over the US remastered version. Haven't tested Region B playback yet.

I just ordered the Japanese 2013 reissue, which according to the List of International BDs with....thread has a higher bitrate than the first offering. Will try to post comments later.
But, does Fifth Element have any scenes that require English subs? I remember some scenes in an alien language, but can't remember if they had subtitles or if we were just supposed to imagine what the characters might be saying.
EDIT: I learned there's a scene that requires subs, but have to see about this Japanese reissue. At the top of this thread it shows the first release as also including English subs, maybe just for this scene? Elswhere I read it has no English subs, we'll see.

But is the early JP edition also the Gaumont transfer? If so it should look quite a bit different from the US. If the early JP ed. turns out to be a superior encode of the US/Sony remaster I might be tempted to check it out as an alternative.

Resurrecting an ancient thread here, but does the Kadokawa version have any extras, and was there an answer to the subtitled aliens question?
