Default Checking playback resolution on PS3

Hey guys,

I just got the PS3 but haven't had the chance to download and install the firmware update yet. I played a standard dvd, and hit triangle during playback to look and see if it would tell me the resolution (since it has been said on this forum that was how you do it.)

I did not see the resolution anywhere, so my question is did I do something wrong? Or is this feature not available until I download the update?

Thanks guys,

bryan

I am asking because I want to be able to make sure I have my blu-rays playing at 720p when I get my new TV in a couple days. I know to go into display and video output settings, but I just wondered if there was a way to make sure its playing at the resolution you want.

anyways let me know

thanks

You need at least update 1.8 to do upscaled dvds and 720p for blu ray.

your tv should be able to tell you that.

Default updating

The update instructions on Sony's site are kind of confusing. What was told to me on this forum by a respected member was that all I had to do was burn the update onto a disc (after downloading it from the website), put the disc into the PS3, and the update would start automatically.

Can anyone else confirm if this is correct? Or is it more complicated than that?

When you burn the disc it should be in a structure as follows:

PS3>UPDATE>PS3UPDAT.PUP

Top folder has to be PS3, Subfolder as UPDATE, and the update file itself as PS3UPDAT.PUP in order for the PS3 updater to read the file.

If you have a flash drive, use it per guidosarduche's instructions. Much better way that wasting a CD-R.
