Default Star Trek TOS Season 3 - Dec. 15th

Star Trek Original Series Wraps Up on Blu-ray
Posted September 21, 2009 07:02 AM by Juan Calonge

Who would have thought it? The whole original Trek series is going to be released on Blu-ray within the year. 'Star Trek: The Original Series, Season 2' is not even out until tomorrow, but Paramount Home Entertainment has already scheduled the third and final Season 3 for a BD release on December 15. A three-season pack is also set for December 15.

Special features include:
-"Where No Fan Has Gone Before": the restored, unaired alternate pilot episode
-David Gerrold Hosts "2009 Convention Coverage"
-Life Beyond Trek: Walter Koenig
-"The Anthropology of Star Trek" ComiCon Panel 209
-Chief Engineer's Log
-"The World of Rod Roddenberry" ComiCon 2009
-Memoir From Mr. Sulu
-Captain's Log: Bob Justman
-Billy Blackburn's Treasure Chest: rare home movies and special memories Part 3
-"To Boldly Go..." Season Three
-Collectible Trek
-Star Trek's Impact
-Trailers
-BD-Live
How awesome is this news, Season 2 isn't even out yet and Paramount has already set a date for the final season, and it looks to be a great set. I wonder if the 3 season set will come in any special packaging or with other bonuses to entice fans to double dip?

A little too close together for me, I will have to wait until January to buy this third set, just too many darn things to buy in December

Yeah i don't know why Paramount decided to squeeze in the third season into 2009 and only 3 months after season 2 (i belive the gap between season 1 and 2 was 5 months), I was expecting not to see it until March or so of next year

I won't complain though, earlier is better and it'll make for a really great x-mas marathon

why release it during the non-holiday season when they can release it right before Christmas and make a lot more $$$ especially considering they have probably had the 2nd and 3rd season blu-rays completed the same time the 1st season came out. Why let it sit on a shelf and collect dust?

December 15th is the perfect time, as spouses across the country will be purchasing seasons 2 and 3 (or possibly the complete series) for their geeky partner...

When they released the Next Generation sets on dvd, they released both the season 6 and 7 sets in December, so this is nothing new for them.

I could hold off on this season, since the majority of the episodes are below average, but I will probably pick it up as an Xmas gift to myself.

Or people like me will be picking it up for themselves to add a little joy to an otherwise lonely Christmas

No real humans love me but at least I can shrug off the x-mas blues with a bottle of romulan ale and the crew of the USS Enterprise

Hey you gotta look on the bright side

All three of these season are going to look so sweet on my shelf, I love the sleek and simple look to them as opposed to the clunky look of the DVD season sets from 2004

figured i'd bump this thread just in case any one was looking for it

I hope we get package art soon for season 3 and the 3 season set (if the set is in nice packaging, it's going to be tempting to sell the seasons and pick up the set)

As for season 3, i wonder what colour the number "3" will be on the spine, season 1 had a black "1" in the yellow triangle, season 2 has a silver "2" in a blue triangle...Will season 3 have a white "3" in the red triangle, or another colour?

Or maybe i'm being OCD about packaging

Day 1 purchase for me.

I have been watching the second season and have loved every minute of it.

I don't know if this is an easter egg or not, but on disc 2, if you press the red button that is not labeled anything, there is an interview with one of the writers. I think he talks about director Marc Daniels.

I think thats what we all hope, hopefully with TOS all on Bluray by year end, 2010 will see some focus shift to the other Trek franchises

Of course we all know thats easier said then done, but i think TNG might be worth reediting the episodes at least financially

Here is a clip of it from 'io9'. VERY interesting!

http://io9.com/5384574/star-treks-un...-movie-delayed

"Star Trek's second pilot — a longer version of "Where No Man Has Gone Before," introducing Captain Kirk — has never appeared anywhere, but it'll be on a new Blu-Ray set. Meanwhile, the next Trek movie is delayed one year.

According to TrekWeb, the Star Trek Season 3 Blu-Ray set will include the longer cut of "Where No Man Has Gone Before," which has never aired or appeared on DVD or VHS. (The Youtube video above includes all the sections that are different.) The original cut started with a view of our galaxy, while Captain Kirk talks poetically (in an "Enterprise Log," about Earth and its sun being specks of dust as the Enterprise ventures out of the galaxy. There's also a long scene of the crew stalking down a hallway as the ship goes on full alert, and a bit more Kirk/Spock banter. Not only that, but the opening and closing credits are totally different, with the televised "whoooo-ooooo" music being replaced by some music that sounds more like the show's other incidental tunes.

Given that the season three box set also includes season three, it's good that there's some incentive for fans to buy this thing.

Separately, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman told the Screenwriters Expo in L.A. that they think the next Star Trek movie is coming out in 2012, not 2011 as we've been told previously. Orci and Kurtzman had planned to have the screenplay done by Christmas, but with the new timeframe, they're going to take longer with it. As for what happens in Trek 2, says Kurtzman:

They're established now in the second movie and they're finally a crew so it will resemble what you see in terms of they are already who they are."

I'm glad it's coming out soon after season 2. I am looking forward to seeing a nice HD rendition of "The Tholian Web".
