-20 to -15. Anything close to REF is too much.

I do go to -10/-12 when I get the opportunity to watch alone. Also some soundtracks are softer than others on my setup. For example, when I watch my Transformers blu I have to go to -7.5 to get it to the level that others are at -12.

I like my volume set in absolute rather than regular (I don't like the neg symbol... don't know why). I usually listen at 62dB or 64dB. I believe that reference is 85dB so as a comparison, I'd be about -21dB to -23dB.

I'm pretty much in this range as well for movies, depending on the mix.

For music (2 channel only) -10 and sometimes higher on older recordings.

For TV viewing, I would say -30's to -40's
For watching a movie, I would say -20's (sometimes I have been down to about -18, but I have never been lower than this.)

As loud as I can without inducing any distortion. We have a lot of space out where I live, so I could land an airplane out here without disturbing the neighbors... may as well abuse the privilege.

-40 is the turn on point for my receiver which is fine for normal nightly viewing. If I am watching a movie or listening to music I would say right around -20 or what ever the wife will allow

That must be very nice to have, I wonder sometimes if both my neighbors can hear me.

And I usually listen to movies a about -30. But in my world it depends on when the wife is going to complain it's too loud, and then its about -35 to -40. And just to get the jokes out of the way I'll smiley myself.

God, if I lived in an apartment or condo, I'd have to just sell my rig; there's no point even trying when one has to put up with that crap. At least you have enough space or sound isolation to get some enjoyment out of your set. If your neighbors can hear you, at least they're leaving you alone. My brother lives in a condo, he has no speaker system, just the TV, and his neighbors still come over and hassle him about noise almost every night. I pity him greatly.

For blu mine is usually around -20 and for tv is around -30. When I was looking for a house my first interior requirement was room for my HT and that I could play as loud as I want without disturbing the neighbors.

I live in a condo but luckily I'm in a duplex with a basement. I've really pushed my system really hard but have not heard a single complaint from my neighbors. I guess I'm just lucky
