Sunset Boulevard
Touch Of Evil
Charlie Chaplin Films
Marx Brothers Films
Psycho (1960 Hitchcock)
Rear Window
Dial M For Murder
Vertigo
Ben Hur (Possible 2010 Release)

The Sound Of Music
Dracula (1931)
Frankenstein (1931)
High Noon
His Girl Friday
The Out-Of-Towners (1970)
Ivanhoe (1952)
Captain Blood
The Sea Hawk
The Mark of Zorro (1940)
Charge of the Light Brigade
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Bride of Frankenstein
On the Waterfront
Taxi Driver (Announced)
Jaws

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
The African Queen
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
12 Angry Men
Lawrence of Arabia (Announced)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Khartoum
Doctor Zhivago (Possible 2010 Release)

In a Lonely Place
Kiss me Deadly
Singin' In The Rain
Gigot
The Wolf Man (1941)
The Mummy (1932)
The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
The Fly (1958)

The Man Who Would Be King
Purple Noon
La Dolce Vita
Amarcord
Rocco & His Brothers

The Talented Mr. Ripley

I'll update it with links and any info if necessary. We need to support the restoration of these classic pieces of cinema!

Citizen Kane is currently in the prep stages (most likely 2011 target date). Don't know about the others.

Also, I think this belongs in the Wish List forum....

I would have thought Ben Hur would be released this year to celebrate it's 50th Ann.

Classics are not selling very well on blu right now and they are not geared to the major demographic. That is the biggest reason you are not seeing a lot of classics out and the ones that are (Oz and Gone with the Wind) are coming out in the big UCE just to offset the cost to make it worth while to the studio to even put it out.

I thought so too but I thought it'd be good for information on them. Either way, if a Mod would feel the need then go for it. Good to hear Citizen Kane is on it's way at some point.

But is there any news on movies like:

Citizen Kane
Sunset Boulevard
Touch Of Evil
Modern Times (Or any other Chaplin film)
Marx Brothers films
Psycho (1960 Hitchcock)
Rear Window
Dial M For Murder
Vertigo

I'll update it with links and any info if necessary. I just really want these movies on Blu-Ray with a restoration that they deserve.
Criterion was apparently negotiating the rights to all the Chaplin films, but I don't know what happened with that. Haven't heard about any of the others, but I assume after North by Northwest streets and sells well we will hear about more Hitchcock. Sunset Blvd I would like to have yesterday! The remastered DVD version was scrubbed of grain, so I wonder what they will do for blu.

I still want "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." To my knowledge, it was never even officially released on DVD in the U.S., at least not by Fox.

Its going to take a while for all this stuff to come out on blu. It took many many years for the original King Kong to come out on DVD, and even now they are having to remaster it again for HD. So if a lot of these other DVD masters aren't up to par, it's gonna take a lot of work to present them properly on blu.

And by properly, I don't mean Gladiator.

As long as we're at it, how about:

The African Queen (heck, this isn't even on DVD yet, but I know it's in the process of being restored, so there's a chance of a Blu release)
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Maltese Falcon
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
Dark Victory
All About Eve
Jezebel
Mildred Pierce
Double Indemnity
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
