Default Analogue Output

Will Blu-ray players support analogue output at 720p and 1080i hidef rates?

That's the million dollar question. There's been no confirmation yet as to whether or not the BDA will allow analog HD output.

Default It looks like we have an answer

I have some good news and some bad news...

Good news: I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance:

Bad news: I'm sure you can guess. If you are the type of person that
can't stop themselves from looking at a car wreck, follow
the link below. Otherwise, spare yourself the gore.

Oh that's nice. I bet M$ is behind it in some way...
Anyway, on-demand movies get the advantage here.

So my £1,300 lcd that I bought 18 months ago is now obsolete because it doesn't have the neccesary HDMI or DVI connection. Well that's just great. Who could have guessed that a new digital connection could become so essential in such a short space in time. Certainly none of the so called experts who write for the various Home Cinema mags that's for sure.

Default Even TVs with digital inputs may have only one....

...which means if you want to watch full-quality movies using your BD player then no other devices can use that input. Or do we need to buy a switchbox?

Frankly allowing downgraded analog video was a stupid thing to do. Even if most studios opt not to do this, it's one more piece of fine print consumers will need to watch out for when buying movies. Why in the world would I pay full price to replace one of my DVD movies with a new format that offers only marginally better resolution? Frankly, I think DRM is going to kill both BD and HD-DVD before either format gets off the ground.

Speleo.
