Default disc fault or player?

So i just bought my copy of Snow White. Opened it and leave it there for a day cause I didn't have time to play it. So today when I was going home from work, put the disc on my player to watch the movie. I then watch the previews and some up coming title from disney when came this 5-8 mins of blankness on the screen. So I tried to get the disc out and put it back 3 times but the problem is still there. I tried to play some other titles but they work.

So is the disc defected? or is it my player? Im using a Sharp Aquos BDHP50 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player.

Liselotte,

You can always try your Snow White disc in someone else's Blu-ray player, or take it to a store and try it there.

You may want to check to see if the firmware on your Sharp player is up to date. A firmware upgrade, if available, may solve your playback problem.

I have to wonder if other people with the same player as you might be experiencing the same problem. Sometimes, these sort of problems (a particular title, and more so "big" titles, not playing properly), spur a manufacturer to issue a new firmware upgrade.

Hi, no, you're disc is not defective in a replication sense. Meaning, if you tried another Snow White disc, the same issue will occur on your player.

I've seen this problem before and the problem you're having is a combination of authoring and the player you have. Some blu-ray titles will be loaded with menus and have "complex" authoring that's not compatible with all players on the market. In your case, the authoring on Snow White is not compatible with your player (which is the fault of the authoring house for not authoring it for older players in mind).

Your player is an older player and it's slow (it's Profile 1.1). All players on the market now are Profile 2.0 so technically your type of player is obsolete. If you don't want to run into this same issue, or want Snow White to eventually work, I recommend the PS3. All companies make sure their titles work on the PS3 and PS3 is the best with handling complex blu-ray authoring.

One more thing to try before going that route..check to see if you have a BD Live option in your set up, if you do make sure that its is set to off.

They have been some problems reported that Snow White takes awhile to load and this my be the cause..

Good Luck

Moefiz, his player is profile 1.1, so the BD-Live option is not a problem for him. And before you run out and get a new player, I recommend some patience.

As celestialdls mentioned in their post, sometimes the authoring of a disc is more than the current firmware can handle. Which in turn, spurs the manufacturer to produce new firmware. I believe this is the problem in your case. I would contact Sharp customer support with your issue, and let them know of the problem. This should "get the ball rolling" as it were, to have them produce new firmware for your player. Unfortunately, until such time as that happens, I believe that you cannot play SnowWhite. I have experienced such things in the past with other players that I've owned, and that has always been my experience.

It seems there are a few complaint's about Snow White, my advice is wait for a bit until the latest firmware is released for your player (BRAND) hopefully that would be the fixing point, if not it could be a manufacturing issue with that peticular film.

Have you tried skipping a chapter while the screen is blank? Or changing the chapter through the info screen? I`ve had the same problem with a few discs, but I`ve always been able to watch the movie by skipping to the beginning of the movie through the info screen. Don`t know if that`s possible with your player though...

I am having the same problem with my Sharp, model BD-HP16. I'm quite new to BD, only got it a few months ago, and it seems like every BD from Disney that I get for my little girl has some sort of problem. But where I would eventually get the others to run, no matter what I have done, Snow White will not run. I am assuming it has something to do with this whole diamond edition thing, Snow White is supposed to be the first one of its kind in this edition, which makes me think the fellows talking about the different coding are spot on.

So is there a way to press Sharp for a firmware update? I see they have none right now for my model, but I find this pretty stupid that we can buy a BD player that won't run some BD's. If I am saying somethign too stupid, please give me a little slack, it's been a long night with a frustrated 4 year old. (Eventually we just tossed in the DVD for her and she was happy then thankfully!)

Default disc fault or player?

I own a Sharp BDHP-50. I've seen the same problem with many of Disney's Blu-Ray releases in the past. Particularly with the Lost Blu-Ray discs. Mostly the text on the menus were all garbled. I was forced to reset the player to fix the problem. I think the problem stemmed from their Season Watch feature. Last year Sharp released a firmware update that fixed many of the same problems you are seeing, but I am now seeing the same problems again with the new releases. My guess is, they will eventually release a firmware update that will fix the problem.

With older players, manufacturers are less pressed to come out with firmware updates and they just don't know the upgrade solution to the varying problems of blu-ray titles out there. So updating firmware is necessary but I'm pretty sure won't address many of the blu-ray problems you're having. If the firmware update didn't help, the PS3 Slim is a good end-all solution.

Default Snow White and Sharp player

Same problem here, BD-HP21U will play the trailers, but not the movie. Nothing works once it's trying to read the movie. PS3 is a good idea, it reads much faster than Sharp players, the problem is my Sharp is still under warranty and I have no intention of letting them off the hook by purchasing a new player. Wake up Sharp!

I spoke with Sharp Tech support this morning, they blame Disney. I then spoke with Disney tech's and they indicate that ONLY Sharp players are having problems with Snow White. Called back to Sharp and was told to continue to watch their site for firmware update.

Default disc fault or a player

i experienced the same problem with Liselotte, but in my case its an old movie entitled "Rising Sun" from 20th Century Fox . Tried to play the movie 3 x on my PS Slim and on each attempt it stopped in the middle of loading with a blank screen then a notification pops up stating "this video cannot be played (80029940)" ..

I tried again but this time on my S-350, it managed to get into the "menu" screen on my second attempt .. But when i press "enter" on the "play" icon the whole thing stopped ..

My guess : it is a disc fault ,, No doubt ,. Unless someone on this forum can tell me otherwise and explain to me what the number (80029940) refferring to ...

Btw, i have the latest firmware and update for both player ..

Well I don't think it's the disc as I own a Samsung ht-bdt system and that too plays all the previews and then stops at the main menu then just freezes
the problem is the discs are becoming so advanced and the firmware comes out (in my case) like once a year
My last firmware update was last March, and is still the only update I can do
