These two are very popular on the forums but there a many more out there that would also serve your need.

...posted from another thread, only goes over your budget by $15, but probably the best you will get for that price range.

sounds like a plan,If heat tends to be a problem for you, stay away from onkyo, they run hot!...not a bad thing, but if it bugs you, then its a no go.

You may want to take a look at Harman Kardon AVR 254 or 354 both of which you can get on ebay as refurb directly from HK for less than your $500 budget. I have a 254 and am very satisfied with the sound which is phenomenal and definitely happy about the price.

As far as real power, very comparable.

I'm going to speak up here as a Pioneer advocate. I've run Pioneer receivers since I was 18, and have always loved the sound they produce. Currently, the Pioneer VSX-1019 is on Amazon for $499. A good quality receiver with plenty of power for you as well.
Pioneer's spec page for the VSX-1019

In the end, however, please pick something that YOU are happy with. Because we can recommend anything, but you are the one using it.

Thats from my thread
+1 for the Marantz. My budget was much lower($350) so got an HK. If I had your budget, I'd def go for the Marantz. Much cleaner sound, and is fully loaded feature-wise too.
