So, Win7 is about to go out... Snow leopard is out.. And Apple execs are trashing Windows as usual.
This time it's a bit overboard though. Even for the Apple marketing. Phil Schiller on Windows 7. For one, what did they expect, win7 would look become OSX? And what's up with Mac OS, with every release it looks different? I know Apple never really bothered with backwards comparability and developers in general, but what's their problem anyway. All that while Win7 isn't out, and Snow Leopard is pretty well laden in bugs. With the infamous quest account bug being at the top. It took apple few days to even acknowledge the problem and not clear how long till it's fixed. Still, it's always a good time to trash competitors no matter how bad your own product is... P.S. Meanwhile, if you upgraded to Snow Leopard and deeply believe that Apple always "virtually bug and virus free" software, for now, refrain from logging on with guest account, well, don't let anyone use guest account, there's a good chance that on logoff it'll delete other users home directories. Which on Unix based systems means pretty much everything for that user. P.P.S. There is a way to restore apparently - Restore deleted home dir. Interestingly that involves backups and long instructions, and whatever else Schiller trashing Win7 for. Oh, and all that works if time machine was running. I figure,U should ask Apple, why all the smugness
![]() BTW, I honestly tried to warn you about the potential danger, since you are one of those who believes Apple products are flawless. Despite our differences, I wouldn't really want to see U wiping out your account. My rant was about Apple trashing Win7 before it's out with that sort of problem in their own OS. And bashing Win7 upgradeability when Win7 supports old hardware and Snow Leo simply dropped support for G4 and other hardware. some from 2005... Apparently you and Apple think crapping on everyone is Apple's god given right... I don't. |

Do you have a problem with that as well? Or perhaps having a problem with THIS article?: http://mashable.com/2009/08/29/apple-tv-industry/ Maybe this one?: http://www.macworld.com/article/1410...le_scared.html Quote:
And your statement is made out to look like Microsoft has a spotless reputation. Nothing could be further from the truth. Logan |

I have nothing against Windows, but I always thought the sort of permission feature thing they added in with Vista was a bit pointless.
Why do I have to "allow" a program to be installed? If I tried installing it, doesn't that mean I want it installed? If someone broke into my house and is installing malware on my computer, can't they just hit "allow"? Apple gets this right by requiring a password when installing most programs or making significant changes on the computer. I don't get why the OP is so defensive anyway. If Windows is so great, and Apple is such crap, why even bother responding to what they say? |

One particular case. Otherwise, if I was on a quest to bash Apple daily, then yes, they do provide material for next decade or two. BTW, can you explain to me, how MS being an a$$ makes it right for the ze Apple to be even a bigger a$$? Quote:
My objection was Apple is bashing Win7 for complicated upgrade path, which Apple made very "simple" by dropping support for all that old hardware, while MS did go through the trouble to support that same old hardware. At the same time having that guest account bug out there. Those are the facts, not really debatable. P.S. BTW, one of the articles you linked refers to "Apple Tax" which apple analyst concludes is false and stupid accusation. Given the 5 year time span that was analyzed there, and considering that G4, and lots of other hardware no longer supported by Apple is less than 5 years old, it doesn't seem that stupid, to the contrary, analyst claiming it isn't true seems dishonest. If you want exact answer, then programs can initiate install and unless you confirm it can be a security problem. I agree it can be annoying, but then again, it can be turned off. Like I said not necessarily. I.e you may not have tried. Now, can you explain to me, how that "allow" thing which is annoying, I agree, but can be turned off, is any worse than OSX prompting me to enter admin pwd every time I run executable to install something including from Apple sites. Apple did make fun of that allow feature in one of their mac vs. pc, but it is exactly the same on OSX. How is prompting admin pwd every time is better? That can be turned off as well, to be fair. I didn't comment on Win 7 except the fact that it does support old hardware dropped by brand new snow leo... Last edited by Zvi; 10-17-2009 at 03:16 AM. |
