Default New to Blu-ray - Want to Upgrade DVDs to Blu Discs

Hello guys,

I'm new to Blu Ray Tech here. Just bought a Blu Ray player and started purchasing Blu Ray discs. I have a collection of over 600 DVDs.

At first I decided to buy blu ray movies that I do not have on DVD but the problem now is that I cannot control myself as I'm buying titles that I already own too. Don't know if this is happening to you guys as well?

I have to say this is the best website with the best info and support.
Awesome work here.

upgrading always depends on the person. Me personally I can't stand DVD quality anymore. If I'm going to own a movie it's going to be the best version out there. I have no problem upgrading since I double and triple dipped on dvd all the time to get the "best" version available, whether that was for more special features, better audio, anamorphic transfers, or just a better transfer in general.

It happens to all of us.
It sounds like you got the fever too, you won't be able to stop it now...

At first you're essentially like: 'No titles will be bought again.'
Then after a short while you're like: 'Well, certain titles that look good can be rebought. And classics and personal favorites as well.'
At the end you're probably like: 'Wasn't I supposed to buy new titles on Blu-ray?'

I've told myself repeatedly I wouldn't rebuy too many titles, but it's already happening. The argument 'rebuy only which titles you really like' doesn't hold up either, because I love 99 percent of the movies in my dvd collection. All the new titles I want to check out aren't exactly helping the financial situation either .

I don't own too many Blu-rays at this point.... perhaps 120 or so.... but of those, I think 70-75 of them are films I already own on DVD, and most of the rest were movies released after I bought my first Blu-ray player.

I certainly won't replace every DVD I have with the Blu-ray, but for films I enjoy enough to continue to watch over and over, I'll double-dip in a heartbeat for even a slight bump in AQ/PQ

I would say the majority of the BluRays I have purchased so far I own on DVD. But, it is really rare for me to purchase DVDs anymore.

Of course I blame this site for most of my purchasing, too many good deals to pass on.

1st of welcome to the forum and the blu ray world!

Double dipping is common to happen, especially if they are ur favourite movies and you would want them to look and sound there best, but yea it would be wise to build a collection of blus u dont own on dvd too save money right now, and then if u are totally happy with ur conversion and dont see urself watching ur dvds anymore, cuz blu ray rocks, then think about selling them. and then you can own any blu want lol

I have been upgrading my DVDs to Blu when I find them at relatively cheap prices. I'd say about a third to half of my blus I owned at DVD before. I always trade in my DVDs after I buy them on blu to put towards buying more.

Just double dip on your favorites or films you watch often and would benefit from an upgrade and are on sale or cheap.

Many thanks to all of you for your comments. I guess I have the fever now. I have ordered many titles from Amazon. Today itself I received about 6 discs.

I have three more orders of over 60 BDs from Amazon and about 40 more on ebay.com.

I have ordered both movies I have on DVD and movies that I do not have as well.

For the guys who upgrade, What do you do usually with the DVDs that you will not be using anymore???

Im guessing at least a quarter of my dvd collection won't be released on bluray... especially alot of the obscure anime titles I own.

I give the dvds away to anyone who wants them, apart from the ones where the Blu-rays don't have all the bonus material. I can hardly get anything for those titles anyway, and they take up too much space.

I started out like you. I bought only the new ones when I first got my ND player. Then I said that I will only double dip on the ones I REALLY like. Now I'm at the point where I will double dip if they are under $15.

I guess that is why I am almost at 250 discs.
