Default Special Edition for Ninja Turtles?

I know some members have feelers out there, so I thought I would throw the question out there.

Any chance of seeing the first turtles film released individually in a special edition? Warner released Batman individually after the anthology (hoping Batman Returns gets a release soon) and I know there has got to be goodies they can put on an individual release, including several of the cut scenes.

I am not thrilled with the collection released. I have TMNT on blu and the others on DVD, so I don't really want the bare bones releases.

So, anything?

Warner and New Line had a chance with the 25th anniversary and passed. So maybe the 30th anniversary which is five years from now. However, considering that there is no 10th anniversary SE Laserdisc & no 15th and 20th anniversary SE DVDs, I would not hold my breath.

Batman is entirely different situation. The release in the box set is already a special edition with the extras from the DVD. So when they released the digibook, they simply just sold the disc from the set by itself and added extensive liner notes in the digibook.

I doubt it. It wasn't critically loved and I think the digibooks are meant for highly respected releases but as for a double dip as well. I don't think so, I don't see Warner really caring much for the title especially just releasing it all in a boxset and not seperately.

Yea, I see what your saying. Crap! I guess I will invest in the collection in a few months and trade on the TMNT copies somewhere.

Are there any good custom covers for these movies that you know of? I will not be keeping them in the cardboard thingy.

If I recall, for a while, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the highest grossing independent film of all time.

Yeah.

It's not a bad film and it has a place in film history, I'd say. I'd say the thing holding back WB from doing a special release of the first film as a digibook like they did for Batman is that they don't want to go to the trouble of coming up with special features. It'd look awfully silly releasing a special edition digibook that is actually a bare-bones disc.

Yeah, but Laird has stated that there are features that they could put together and he maintains a relationship with the director (Steve Barron I think). The scenes that were cut still exist, so they could at least include them. A commentary, a look at the media exposure; these should be easy enough to throw together.

They could even include the forthcoming "Turtles Forever" piece that is airing next month.

I think there are opportunities.

Which New Line and Warner have not taken this year or in the past. I highly doubt they are going to even consider it for the 30th anniversary.

If they wanted, they could have really done up a nice release for the 25th Anniversary box set. Instead you get premium collectables with the first three films including only trailers and the fourth film being the same BD as before but with new coverart.

Well the collectibles are for the die-hard fan collectors so in a way it's a pretty nice release for collectors but for people who just want the movie with the dvd extras included are out of luck.

There is a new film due out in 2011. That presents another opportunity. I think if Laird is persistent it might happen down the road.

I guess I will invest in the collection around Christmas time. Definitely need custom cases though. I really like the way the Star Trek films are packaged. I would package my other collections similarly if I could find nice sturdy boxes in which to store the thin cases.
