Default Initial Settings for Polk Monitor 70's + PSW505

Hi there. This is my first post here. I got a pair of Polk Monitor 70's and a Polk PSW505 that I connected to a Sony STR-DN1000. I'm just wondering where would be a good place to start with my crossovers. I am planning on keeping the system as a 2.1 setup and will be listening to music about 70% and movies about 30% of the time.

I do have the Monitor 70's Bi-Amped, so I believe that will allow me to keep the cross over a little lower and still have relatively clean sound. I just wanted to ask people with much more experience and knowledge on the subject.

Also, I have read up on LFE vs. Line In options for the subwoofer and I'm also wondering if any of you have recommendations as to which sounds "better."

I do understand there is no "right" answer and results will vary depending on acoustical environment and sound preference, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

welcome to the foray dustin!

first off, i am considering that you are using this as a 2.1 system, thus my recommendation

AVR (receiver)
- crossover settings at 40hz (your polks are rated at 40-24kHz)
- speakers set at SMALL

Subwoofer
- Active Bypass if feasible, if not..
- Set Crossover settings to max (mostly are 120-135Hz), so the crossover in the AVR will do most of the bass management

There is not technical difference between the LFE out and line in so to speak, aside from the line in option bypasses the subwoofers crossover settings.

Hoping this helps. Stick around and check on our stickies to further assist you. (ive placed one regarding biamping and its 'benefits' )
