Default Tributaries speaker wire

I am looking into getting Tributaries speaker wire Series 7 bi-wire. Does anyone own these or have any experience with them? I want to know what people think before I buy them. They are a 6 foot pair for $200, does anyone have any recommendations that don't exceed $200 and are bi-wire. And please don't tell me monoprice.

Hi,

You may want to have a look at these from Kevin (Valab) in Taipei, Taiwan. Make sure that this is what you want as a bi-wire set. Kevin will make any length and termination that you want but, in this case these are a 3m pair. Shipping may be a bit expensive ($30) because the cables are heavy and about 3/4" in diameter. Kevin's speaker cables use a combination of silver plate and oxygen free copper conductors. You could easily pay 3 to 5X or more for cables like these through normal channels. The materials, construction, and workmanship are first rate. Kevin gets the highest quality Chinese wire and materials (same materials as a lot of the big players) and produces these with custom made termination materials at very low prices.

http://tinyurl.com/yzbff66

I have been using Kevin's speaker cables in pairs in my high end system for bi-wiring my front L, R, and C channels for over 1 1/2 years. Kevin also made a bi-wire set for my rear speakers. BlurayFred also uses these cables and likes them very much.

He will be making some very long runs for me for my new home and my system; I am just awaiting his price quote to place my order around November 3.

Rich

You can contact Kevin and post e-mail questions and place orders right through his eBay listing. Kevin has been making a lot of cables including the TimePortal line of cables for Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company and for me for about 2 years.

If you want to see what other products Kevin has and makes look at his eBay store listing. He is making special items for me and has for Dave Schulte as well. Amongst other things, Kevin is making up a special Y connector of shielded silver conductor wire with female XLR to plug into the XLR subwoofer output of my upgrade Onkyo 885 Pre/Pro to a pair of male XLR at the other end. This Y connector will then plug into special shielded silver conductor subwoofer cables that will have a female XLR connector to plug into the Y connector and an RCA connector at the other end to plug into the plate amp on both of my subwoofers.

I haven't had the opportunity to demo Tributary speaker wires but if you're interested in some Tara Labs cables, I know this guy in Tennessee that has awesome deals on them. PM me if you want.

I own Vector 1 IC's. I like them. If I ever upgrade speaker cable I may hit you up for that contact.

I was just trying to point out since he asked that Kevin can make up basically anything that he feels that he needs in the way of cables.

Sorry,

That was not my intent. I will try to tone it down a bit.

Hi sokrman!

Should you decide on Kevin's cables, please let us know what you purchased and what your impressions are. The more information we have on various cables the better.

I will definitely keep you guys updated. I agree, the more we know, the less people buy crappy stuff.

Rich,

No problem. Kevin accidentally sent your price quote to me as well. He doesn't have enough wire for my order and there will be a price increase. So I will have to wait and find out just how bad my pricing will be and I hope that Kevin can fill the order in time for my move to the new house. But because of the amount of wire that I need it was not entirely a surprise.

Rich

I know that no amount of scientific information will change the minds of audiophiles, but I have an obligation to inform other members. Bi-wiring is an absolute and total waste of time and money, particularly for quality speakers and well-made crossovers. Audioholics did extensive scientific studies on this and published two papers on the topic and reached the same conclusion.

If you want to do something that is worthwhile, invest your money on bi-amping. Passive bi-amping has some benefits. The real benefits of bi-amping will be fully realized when you do active bi-amping with active external crossovers.

Check my comments in the second half of post #1 in the Bi-Amping and Bi-Wiring thread.

I am bi amping, but I want to use a bi-wire so that I may reduce cable clutter. But it will be hooked up to my 200x7 BK amp, with 4 channels dedicated to the front speakers.

Interesting you should say that so unequivically. Many moons ago, I read about this bi-wiring nonsense. Being an open-minded sceptic, I decided to give it a try. So I modified my speakers for bi-wiring (cut the appropriate tracks in the crossover and installed an extra set of binding posts), and gave it a try. I expected to hear aboslutely no difference. None. So imagine my surprise when I did hear an improvement, one that was repeatable (by switching between one set of binding posts and two).

I guess my Tannoy Mercury Mk 2s weren't "quality speakers with well-made crossovers"...

With all respect (and you are due a lot!), I believe my ears over what over people tell me I should or shouldn't be able to hear. If I can explain why I hear what I hear, so much the better. But the inability to explain something doesn't invalidate the observation.

BTW, I'm not asserting that bi-wiring will always produce an improvement in sound quality. What I am asserting is that it can result in a sound quality improvement.
