Default Ice Age 3 - Audio Issue or bad disc ?

I just bought Ice Age 3 and the movie looked and sounded great until the 52:31 mark when the audio stopped. I was able to get the audio restarted by changing to another language and then back to DTS HD MA.

I am bitstreaming from a Samsung BD-1500 to an Onkyo TX-SR706.
If I set the BD player to internally convert the audio, I get about 1-2 seconds of garbled audio and then everything is fine for the rest of the movie. I have inspected the disc and wiped off fingerprints. There is no loss of picture quality during this period.

I bought this at Wally World and really don't look forward to exchanging it. So, before doing so, I wanted to see if anyone else has had similar problems. I'd hate to go through the exchange hassle only to still have problems.

I had the same problem, also bought mine at Wal-Mart.
The sound cut out once at around 32 minutes and then again at around 55 minutes. I had to pause it and play again to get the sound back.
The disc also took much longer to load than any other Blu-ray's I've ever had, several minutes before the menu would come up and another several minutes after pushing play before the film started.

Are you also using a Samsung player? It could be a firmware issue (fits the Samsung MO unfortunately). Try updating if there are new firmwares available, or else you might have to wait for Samsung to fix the bug.

Nope, I just have an Insignia. I just did a firmware update not too long ago on mine.

Wallendo,

Picked it up from Walmart and just watched it with no problems. Sony BDP-S350 player bitstreaming to Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver. Firmware is up to date on my player.

Definitely look to see if your player firmware is up to date. Of course, install latest update if not.

If it's a faulty disc you have, perhaps wait on exchanging so that the replacement comes from different stock, or consider exchanging at a different Walmart.

Everything is up to date. I may just wait a few days. I just updated my firmware over the internet last week. My back-up blu-ray player (a PS3) is 80 miles away and I am not currently able to test the disc on that machine. Unless there are many reports of audio problems in the next day or two, I will assume it is a bad disc and take it back.

I've got the same player (Samsung BD-1500) and the disc played fine last night with no audio issues played through my Yamaha amp, sound like your disc my be faulty. Good luck with the new disc if you decide to exchange it!

I had the same issue, i just got a new denon amp, so its my first time with dts-hd etc, my htpc doesnt support that, nor does my ps3 so i had to break out a samsung 1500 i had in the box, it had a june 2008 firmware which wouldnt even play ice age, so i did an update and it got the latest. I had the sound cut out during a cave scene but i cant remember the timing... i think buck was telling his rudy story.

My issue was during the scene where Buck describes his previous encounter with Rudy (but it was not set in a cave. I suspect it may be the same scene.

I picked up two copies on Tuesday from Target (Chicago, IL). Both discs have the same audio issue around 52:30 - the picture slows down, you lose audio, then nothing. Strange thing, I can switch the audio to another language and back to the DTS HD and the sound would come back.

I do have a Samsung BD-1500, updated the firmware an hour ago. Now, the same scene just slows down a couple of frames, a loud pop and the audio continues...

I emailed Fox Home Video yesterday about this - no response yet.

I will try this weekend on my mom's Sony BD and see if it does it on her's.

I want to go back to a different Target, but it seems that many people are experiencing this with the Samsung BD players...

Equipment:
Samsung BD-1500, Mitsubishi WD-82837, Pioneer VSX-39TX receiver

This sounds very much like a firmware issue. It played fine on my PS3.

You seem to be having the same problem as I. When updating the firmware, the update process resets audio output to one of the internal decoding options (it turns off DTS HD MA streaming), which is probably why you now just have the brief audio dropout.

I own a Sony BDP-N460 blu-ray player with the lastest firmware (v.094) installed and cannot get the Ice Age 3 blu-ray to play. It seems to freeze within the first few seconds after the circles on the bottom of the tv appearing from the movie loading screen. I have a PS3 slim and Sony BDP-S350 that the disc does play on. Any idea what may be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Well I just picked up my copy, yesterday at my local BJ's for $21.96.

I didn't have a chance to watch it last night because of Halloween. But later this morning I will put in in the player and check these scenes to see if there are any issues.

I also have an Insignia(Funai)BD Player. But I have yet to have any movie that wouldn't play.(And I havent done Any Firmware updates since I took it out of the box on Christmas 2008)

I wonder if anyone has noticed if the audio drops out on the regular DVD Copy as well.

Wow this sounds more like a Bad Batch for so many complaints?

My uncle just bought the Slim Ps3 + IA 3 and same problem. I'll wait to buy mine to see what's really going on.

Well I just checked my Copy of Ice Age 3.

I let it play from the 30 minute mark to the 40 minute mark. And then I let it Play from the 48 minute mark to the 59 miute mark.

I didn't have any slow downs or lags. There was NO Audio Drop-Out or No Audio Stop.Everything worked just perfectly.
At least thru the timed points in the Movie that Everyone with the Problem had noted.

I have a First Generation,Insignia NS-BRDVD Blu-Ray Disc Player that I bought on Black Friday(The Day After Thanksgiving)in 2008.
I haven't done a single firmware upgrade since I hooked it up almost a year ago.And to this Point it has Played EVERY Movie I have put in the Player without a Single Issue(Knock on Wood)

(One Exception. On the New Release of Terminator 2:SkyNet Edition)It took a little longer to Load. And when the Menu Screen Arrived;it said Not All Features Are Available On this BD Player.

And I do think a Firmware update would correct that. But the Movie Played Fine.So I am not 100% sure what Extras wouldn't work except BD Live or something.

But Back to Ice Age 3.My Copy has 3 Discs.Blu-Ray Version,Standard DVD,and A Digital Copy. But I also Purchased it at BJ's Warehouse Club on Sale for $21.96.

So It is happening on Insignia's,Samsungs,Sony's,and probably more.So my Best Guess is that there were a Bad Batch of Discs that are out on the Market.
And it looks like Wal Mart got the Majority of the Problematic Discs.

But My Copy of Ice Age 3,Purchased at BJ's,and played on a Best Buy Insignia BD Player;Works Perfectly Fine(as far as the problems that have been listed in this Thread).

So,I Truly Hope all of you with Audio Dropout Issues, will find a Solution and a Fix to the Problem.I would suggest returning the Disc while waiting to see if there is a Recall on the Original Run of Discs.

Picked up a copy at Wal-Mart on Friday. Haven't watched it yet, but if a problem develops I could be in a bind. I have the Sony BDP-S560, and (so far) the Sony online help page doesn't list any firmware updates for it.

UPDATE:

I played my two Target copies on my mother's Sony BDP-S350 and BDP-360. Both copies were fine at the 52:00 mark - no slow down or audio drop outs. So I rule that my Samsung BD-1500 with the latest firmware cannot handle this disc.

I will email Fox Home Entertainment (again since no reply from two weeks ago) to see if a recall will happen or just a disclaimer on their Support page shows up.

Looks like I'm picking up a Sony BDP on Black Friday

Default ice age problem

I just had the same problem. I bought Ice Age and started playing it. The previews work perfectly but as soon as the movie starts there is no sound. I just bought the player two months ago. I insert another movie and that I cant hear anything on that one either. It turns out I cannot play another movie right after ICE AGE if not I wont hear any sound on any movie. I have to turn it off and back on and now I can hear the sound on other movies. I took it back to Wal-mart and they exchanged it for me but it did the same thing again. I dont know what it is. The movie or the player? The player is an LG Blu Ray. By the many complaints I am assuming it is the movie. Now I am weary about other movies I am going to buy.
