Default Audio Issue: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I was watching this and I noticed that the voice track looked dubbed. The voice does not always match with the mouth movements of the characters.

Has anyone else noticed this?

These films are almost always dubbed. (You are talking to a collector of over 500 Italian films from the 70's.)

Most of the time you are lucky if the actual actors do their own dubbing!!

The voice and the mouth should be off since it is dubbed? Just checking, I can not recall seeing a movie that was intended like this.

I guess you've never seen this before, lol... the film, like most Italian productions of the time, were all shot MOS (without sound) and dubbed later in post.

Correct, I had never seen this film before, but I've heard great reviews. As long as it is normal, I'm fine with it.

Like I said, most Italian films of this era were shot this way. In fact, when actors of different nationalities were used, they often did the dialogue in their own language and dubbed over later for whatever country the movie was playing in... so none of the lips would match 100% of the time.

That's why it's called a "spaghetti western"... they were shot in Italy to mimick the American westerns, but could be made more cheaply with Italian crews (the director, Sergio Leone, was obviously Italian).
