Default Disney upgrade2blu program***Coming Soon***

I stumbled across this on the Disney website, It says Coming Soon however from the thumbnailed screencap it looks like a 8.00 upgrade program for your DVDs to Blu-rays

http://disneyupgrade2blu.com/
disney site.jpg

Stay tuned, This could be a great opportunity to replace dvds that are on blu-ray

Good stuff JWB. Disney has been great at promoting Blu-ray and this will be a great idea. I am interested in upgrading all my movies where feasible. $8 might not be much for a couple of movies, but for 50-60 it adds up.

Thanks for info, that's great news. Even @ $8.00, that's still cheaper than shelling out $20+ to replace all our old Disney flicks.

This would be a great idea. If it was successful then possibly other studios would copy it.

That's cool but it would depend on how it works out. If you have to buy the BluRay from a website like Disney Movie club and their inflated prices it's a no go for me. But if I could shop around and find the lowest price and then get another $8 I could see upgrading some.

Sounds interesting but for me I would benefit from it better if it worked on vhs.

Most likely, it will be similar to the red2blu program, where the upgrade will cost $8, not an $8 discount.

BTW Universal studios, we would LOVE to have a a red2blu upgrade type program like Warner does.

If Disney does this, I hope they do it similar to WB's red2blu program, where you get to keep the original disc. I suspect that most Disney fans would like to keep their original DVD's for the kids/grandkids etc.

This would be pretty cool, even though I don't have all that many Disney DVDs unless they include Miramax, Touchstone, etc...

Now, if the trade up Blu rays were combo packs...

Well, some of them are. Just to name 2 off the top of my head, are Bolt and Snow White. They come in combo packs with no other version available.
Of course, Disney COULD press special versions for this vaporware program that have only a single disc Blu-ray included.

In a way this is cool because it's not really that big of a rip off. I don't remember how much Beauty and the Beast and Lion King were? 20 dollars? So it's just 8 more and it feels like you're paying for a bluray full price and if we're allowed to keep our dvds I'll just sell it so I'll get that 8 dollar difference back. It'll feel like I never double dipped in the first place.

Though I'm curious, are they going to give us the whole packaging with the blu like the slipon and all the discs. Wouldn't you have 2 dvd discs then? I wouldn't mind it that way.

Oh and Warner needs to make red2blue work for dvds as well. If all studios start doing that, then I'll be a happy man. Most notable Fox, Warner, Universal and Paramount.

Due to the fact that Disney has now issued an $8 off coupon for Monsters Inc. I am inclined to believe that you will be getting $8 off the purchase of a new Blu-ray version and not be getting the new Blu-ray for $8. I thought they originally said that they would be issuing $10 off coupons for all of the previous DVD releases.

Winter's almost here and no set up of this yet? I honestly want this be set up before Spring so I can get my hands on Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Beast.

Yes, it is active now. It shows save $8 when you upgrade Monsters Inc. I am pretty sure people are wrong in assuming that you are only going to have to pay $8 to upgrade your DVD to Blu-ray.

Actually, the "Upgrade Program" page is still "Coming Soon", so until it goes live, we don't really know what the plan is going to be.

Granted, it might be just $8 like you and others have posted, but with Disney, who knows?

When you go to the site now, it automatically shows the upgrade for the Monsters Inc Blu-ray. They may have an individual page for each movie coming out.

It says coming Fall, well Fall is has been here for a while and a coupon for Cars would have been nice this week to use on the new set with the toy cars.

Its done that for a week or so, and that is a link to the Disney Movie Rewards site.

But the "Upgrade Program" page that this thread was started about is still not active, which is all I was pointing out.
