Default Disney Releases Coming Soon

This may be old news, but I came across this in the December edition of the Disney Investor Relations newsletter:

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment recently unveiled five
additions to the Platinum Collection of animated features to be
released on DVD and for the first time on Disney Blu-ray Hi-Def.
These include some of Disney’s most beloved classics, Pinocchio,
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, and
Beauty and the Beast. Each will be available for a limited time
only, in new multi-disc sets featuring rarely seen footage and an
array of new bonus features.

Granted, they give no time frame, so it could be over the next few years or so.

Thanks, I noticed they were less than forthcoming on the actual release dates. Here's to hoping they'll speed release dates to cash in in Blu-ray's success.

Oh No! What happened to The Lion King, The Little Mermaid and Mulan? By the time they come out on Blu-ray I will be 90 years old and Blu-ray will be replaced by direct-to-brain bio-implant (like in The Matrix).

Its going to take forever to get all of these out if they are only going to release 2 a year. Take into consideration that The Lion King, Lady and the Tramp, Aladdin, 101 Dalmations, The Sword and the Stone, The Little Mermaid, Bambi, Peter Pan, and Dumbo still need their blu ray goodness.

Get these suckers out!

Keep in mind that Disney does release more than 2 DVDs a year currently. They just do 2 platinum titles a year. I think they usually release 2 special editions as well currently.

If they get up to 4 titles a year on Blu in the near future (hoping for 3 in 2009, but I think we may only see 2) than I'll be a happy camper.

I'm just glad that the best film of all time is coming out March 10th, but I definitely hunger for more hand drawn animation

Disney animated Blus are a no go for Latin America since all discs fails for the Spanish track, huge mistake by Disney releasing here in Mexico same disc as US or CND (A), I have mayor disappointment with Sleeping Beauty, Tinker Bell and Wall E.

I don't understand how Enchanted and Game Plan have Spanish tracks and animated classics can't have it!!

So I will pass

This is actually old news -- all those titles were discussed back when Sleeping Beauty was announced.

I can't be happier with their choice of titles to release on Blu-ray, literally, but fans of their other big animated features will just have to live with the Platinum release schedule. Oh, and make sure to get them while they're available, too...

Hopefully they won't put out as few copies of these titles as they did of "Dr. Syn Alias the Scarecrow." That DVD went out of print after 13 days.
