1/26

- Enemy of the State: TBD
Figured I would cross-post this over here from AVS for some more rational conversation...

This excites me... Not only because of BD-50, but because the discs are made, and they even have english PCM. So all that has to be done is the menus and packaging and they should be ready for release in the US correct?

Pearl Harbor 4tW...the DVD's DTS track is incredible! Can't wait to hear it lossless in HD DL 50gb glory!
would also be nice to see pirates done right for once.

Whats also funny is both these films were on in HD over the weekend on the HD locals, CBS & NBC i think it was.

Hey, no fair!!!!! How come Japan gets DTS Japanese 5.1 and no DTS English 5.1 on BD??
I do import a lot of standard DVDs (movies) with English DTS from Japan when the North American versions of the same movies don't sport the English DTS.
2006 has been THE WORST year for lack of DTS-encoded DVDs here in North America.

Why does Chicken Little get BD50? It is really a short movie!

Ooh tempting. Hopefully the remainder of Disney's U.S. BD launch will look similar. I'd love to have Pearl Harbor in HD. I'm sure my wife and kids would love Pirates and Starship Troopers as well.

Would it be safe to say that these Japanese releases are using either VC-1 or AVC? I mean, they're planning to put an LPCM, DTS, and DD track on a SL disc. I sure hope so. Oh, and did anybody notice the specs for the movie "Innocence"? 7.1 LPCM track. That rocks.

I'm assuming this, but with the current releases that we have I wouldn't be surprised if they did use MPEG-2. However, it has been said many times in different places that Disney would be using either VC-1 or MPEG-4. I think many studios held off from making blu-ray discs until better codecs were available because they didn't deem the PQ as acceptable.

Yeah have to warn you that Starship Troopers is one of the most gory movies ever made and features a fair amount of nudity.

Well, those single layer discs had better be using some form of advanced video codecs, otherwise the PQ will take a big hit with them trying to fit all those audio tracks onto the same disc. Though I'm highly optimistic that Disney will get it right.

Waaah, there releasing Ghost in the Shell 2 : Innocence on BD-50.

Waaah, that's gonna be the best anime flick that could come out on BD this year.

Forget AIR, this one's wayyyyyyy better.
