2013 in development....

Roland Emmerich’s next disaster film 2012 won’t hit theaters for a couple weeks (November 13th), but a sequel has already been planned… but not the normal kind of sequel. Entertainment Weekly has learned that Emmerich and executive producer Howard Gordon (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice) are also developing a television drama titled 2013, which would be about what happens after the disaster. Grdon has already entered talks with ABC to develop the series, and if it does happen, don’t expect a lot of action to take place on the small screen, as this would be a drama set in a post apocalyptic setting.

[Show spoiler]Apparently some people on earth survive the epic disaster of 2012, and the series would be about “a group of people who survived …. on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving. There are so many possibilities of what they could do and I’d be excited to watch it.” So, don’t expect any of the big names from the movie cast to join the show. Gordon describes the series as being about “how will these survivors build a new world and what will it look like.”

Who would’ve thought that 2012 would be the inspiration for a television drama? I’m all for more post-apoclypic sci-fi television shows, especially ones which might have a budget to show what earth has become. Of course, this is all just speculation until 2012 debuts in theaters. The box office of that film will likely decide if ABC will move forward with the small screen plans.

LOL. Well the whole 2012 thing isn't that the world is just gonna end, but our current way of life might end. Our planet is supposed to pass through the very middle of the Milky Way, a high energy plane, every 26,000 years. And this is coming up again in Dec 2012. It's supposed to cause magnetic shifts in our poles, earthquakes that cause tidal waves, etc. Lots of people are expected to die, and the world will be a better place. As terrible as that sounds, it's undeniable that our current way of life is unnatural and very harmful to our planet. So our planet is supposed to go through some turbulent times and our way of life might end, but the world isn't going to just blow up.

According to the calendars of several different cultures of the past, all who were very good astronomers, this is a continuing cycle. And they all ended on the specific day of December 21, 2012, signifying the beginning of the new age, and the next cycle. Anyways, sounds like the show will follow the aftermath and how people move on. Could be pretty interesting

This as been tried everytime we have a war on this planet, the world was never a better place afterward's. The only way planet Earth will be a better place is if every human being are gone, so after 2012 the Earth will still be a junk yard if there are survivors, those expecting a paradise will be in for a shock
