Well, I guess that pretty much says it all - but there is no way I believe Lionsgate is below Warner and Universal. In fact, There's no way I believe Sony is below Warner Are those reviewers blind? Those bit-starved, Warner smoothies? Please.

I still think Crank is the cleanest disc I have ever seen.

I know it is shot and stylised to look clean, but there you have it.

As demo material IMHO it is second to none.

I can't recall having any specific complaints about the releases from Lionsgate. Still, I find myself with the group that feels Disney and Sony are the best in terms of PQ. Mainly I think it's because at this point in the game you can pretty much rely on them to do a stellar transfer. It's still somwhat hit or miss with the other studios. All of the studios do seem to be improving, with the possible exception of Warner who keeps crippling their transfers in order to make them fit on HD DVD.

you have to keep in mind that these are averages - they include all the original T5E and HoFD for Sony and the unreleased Robocop which got one review from DVD Talk.

Keep in mind that in February Sony was sitting at 3.71 and they're now approaching 4.00 and climbing.

If you look at the last 30 reviews for each studio as of June 18th you get the following.

PQ Studio
4.32 Buena Vista
4.18 Sony
4.18 Paramount
3.92 Warner
3.87 Fox
3.67 Weinstein
3.55 Lionsgate
3.35 Universal

For Lions Gate the list is short, so I can post all of their reviews from the 5 sites in order of PQ decreasing.

Well, I guess that makes sense, but it still seems ridiculous. Warner.

Cool

Every movie house has at least one title deserving of 5 star PQ. For Lionsgate, the best in my collection is The Descent. I think they did a remarkable job on the PQ for a movie this dark. This disc could've easily been a hi-def disaster.

I agree, The Descent looks amazing. It's even more amazing when you consider that there are two full length 1080p encodings of the movie on there - one with PiP and one without, plus seamless branching and a discrete 6.1 uncompressed PCM soundtrack. How's that for showing off the superiority of the Blu-ray format? HD-DVD could never even dream of doing that.

I'm thinking Paramount might be a little over-rated here. All the rest look about right to me, with the exception of Universal, which for obvious reasons I haven't seen much. Warner and Sony are fairly close on the video side of things, but Sony has the most impressive audio I've heard thus far...

I agree, Crank is probably the smoothest looking pic for me...

Disney also makes some awesome looking films...

Lionsgate is good too, also Lionsgate is coming with more 7.1 PCM titles....this is a huge + !!
