Default not making V10 any more (Update - V10 is still in production, all sizes)

A salesman at best buy told me that panasonic has stopped production on the V10,s. Any one know if this is true and if it is. Why?

As far as I am aware Panasonic is still making the V10 series. There is either such a huge demand for the V10 series and/or Panasonic cut back on production since the economy was slower (Not sure which). If you go to Panasonics website all the V10's are back ordered, with most screen sizes being backordered 3 weeks. This is Panasonics cheapest plasma series they make that is 100% flicker free at 96HZ (4:4 pulldown) and the demand for this model appears to be high. The Panasonic V10 is also a bargain. For example the better quality black level's of the 55 inch Samsung UN55B8500 has a list price of $4,449.99. The Samsung UN55B8500 is only slightly better quality in some ways to the 54 inch Panasonic V10 that lists for $2,399.95. Consumers can save around $2,000 and purchase a 54 inch V10 that is comparable to the Samsung 55 inch UN55B8500.
http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/shop/Televisions/VIERA-2009-HDTVs-Series/VIERA-V10-Series-Plasma-1080p-HDTVs.list.134502_11002_7000000000000005702

If Panasonic did stop making the V10 series then most likely they would be coming out with a new model next year. I would be surprised if they stopped making them. It appears Panasonic just did not manufactory enough V10's this year to fill the demand. That is why some mail order dealers are charging $1,000 above list price for the Panasonics. We are seeing a little inflation since demand is more then supply.

I have had a 58" V10 on backorder since September 5th. The only reason I havent canceled the order was because I got it for $2100 shipped.

Really hoping that the rumor of them coming off back order this month is true. Dying to get this thing in my house already.

Why do people keep listening to these idiots at BB (no offense, Sus)? They're the same ones claiming plasma technology is dead and all of the other FUD that goes along with plasma. They're also the ones claiming you need to purchase $250 Monster cables in order to fully experience blu-ray and HD.

90%+ of them have no clue what they are talking about.

Default Panny V10

No, Panasonic is just behind on their orders due to the HUGE demands for this plasma HDTV. IMHO, this is the best plasma that Panasonic has made, and is head and shoulders above any other plasma being manufactured today. No wonder it's back ordered.

I really want the 54 V10 and no ig hurry I can wait for a bit as I have a 52 DLP. The guy that told me that was the boss on the day shift. He said they got a msg. from Panasonic That stated they halted production. May be he wanted me to buy the 5020 KURO. I don't know.

Magnolia HT at best buy stores will be getting the last shipments of the V series TVs in february, until then only the G and below will be available with a few exceptions where there will be a few Vs available.. Panasonic didn't expect this kind of demand in the current economy situation so they haven't been able to supply their dealers properly. I'll be going to the CES show in Vegas in january and I'll see what they are preparing for spring/summer 2010.

Just got a call from the BB near me stating that they just got restocked on the V10's. I called back to the place I had my order at and they said they probably wont get stocked back up till almost January so I canceled with them and will just suck it up and get it through Best Buy.. Tired of waiting..

its true, went to BB today at lunch and they told me they are NOT getting anymore panny 58" v10 in. they are discontinued now, i was like are you kidding?? they said they can get the 50" & 54" no problem, but the 58" & 65" are being discontinued. so i was very unhappy and asked there opinions on the next best thing. i thought about getting a 54", but then checked out there display model of the sammy PN58B860 58" 1080p Plasma and loved it. the magnolia gy then told me they have an open box for this tv. someone bought it and returned it, dont know why but i got it for $2200. got it home tonight and hooked it up and it rocks

i really love it and think i will be just as happy in the end. this tv got amazing reviews and had a few areas that beat the panny v10 and a few that didnt. so a very comparable tv and for a great price.

If Panasonic quit making the V10's, that would be bad news indeed, as I was planning on getting the 65" V10 if the optical block on my 70" XBR2 dies.

It's true because a blue-shirt told you so? No offense, but I'll believe it when I read an official release from Panasonic. I see no logical reason for them to be doing this unless they already have something new and improved to replace them.

I've had a 58v10 on order from BB since September (original delivery was supposed to be 10/31). DW called BB today and they gave her the same song and dance (no more 58v10s being made).

So, I called Pan CS (just got off the phone) and the nice lady told me that Pan is still making the 58v10 and expects to ship in 3 weeks. She confirmed that the new units are to be distributed to retailers although she could not tell me which ones. They intend to fulfill all orders (including mine).

Another local retailer told me earlier this week that they would have 64 units in today (more than enough to cover their 38 pre-sold units). Today they said that they are expecting to get the V10s in next week but wanted to know if I would be interested in something from the S series ($400 off plus a blu-ray player).

It sounds like BB may have realized that through price matching they have been discounting the hottest new TV way too much (I comparison shopped mine to just under $2,100). If all the price-matched orders cancel, and 58v10s start to appear miraculously on the shelves, they can be sold at a much higher margin. At the price I got, however, I intend to continue to resist the urge to buy something inferior and probably more expensive per inch. I'm afraid that DW may not be as committed to the cause. And she can be very persuasive.

There is no stoppage on any V10 units.
That's direct from Panasonic USA.

Yup... spoke to a Panny rep the other day RE: 58" V10 and he said theyre oversold to private and special-order-only dealers through march, so Best Buy and the likes will not be likely to get any until then, but they will be continuing production barring any unforeseen problems... he also told me it is by far the most popular 58" panasonic has ever made (and that he can probably get me one from a Best Buy or Futureshop that has it in stock he'll just do a P.O. and stock shift it to my store )
