Default broken side mirror

I drive a BMW 2003 2.5i z4. I did not drive my car for a whole day yesterday, came home at around 12pm and the car was fine. This morning around 9:15am i was leaving my house for work to find out that the side mirror was broken. Looked like someone was driving and hit the side of my car only to hit the rear view mirror or maybe some kids hit it. I dont know.

my insurance claimed that it wasnt my fault and that I would be elligable for a $1000 deductible and my rates wont increase since it wasnt my fault. My question is how much do you think this will cost after labor and junk? My insurance (geico) wants to bring it to their shop and get the pricing done but they are also letting me bring it to any other shops that I want. So anyone have a guesstimate about the labor and cost to fix the driver's side mirror?

I would probably say in the ball park range of $500 maybe more depending on how mechanical it is.

I'd say if you did it at a BMW dealer depending where you live around that 1000 or maybe more, my brother hit a ball through our 760 sunroof and that was an ungodly amount.

Well, one time that happened to me, I was sideswiped at a parking lot by another driver and both of our mirrors smacked into each other and broke (we agreed it wasn't either of our faults, just an accident) - and since I saw that there was no mechanical damage, I just epoxied it back into place, then painted the visible epoxy black to match the trim.

Than again, I drive an '04 Galant, not a BMW.

1) Do it at the dealership

2) don't claim in for insurance (even if it's $100 more or so) Your rates WILL go up.... despite what they tell you.

I don't recommend going to the dealership UNLESS you get a hook up on the labor. Their rates are almost always higher than independent shops. Installing side mirrors aren't difficult but depending on the car it may take some time. Also, buy the part/s you need online to save even more. I'm sure there are many sites that sell OEM parts. BTW, where are you in California?

berkeley in the bay area. I just made a temporary fix with duct tape. Yeah, i was just gonna buy some parts and stuff. I think they could maybe just glue it back on since the wiring is still working.

Did your company want to file it as a comprehensive claim?
