Default Denon AVR-590 or the Sony DH800?

I'm looking for a new receiver. I only have 2 HDMI devices and so I think that 3 HDMI inputs is enough for me. I also want a receiver with 24fps support through HDMI as next year I might upgrade to a TV that does 1080p 24 fps. Does the Denon AVR-590 have a 1-2 second audio delay when it detects the proper audio format when starting a movie? I really don't want an audio delay that will make me miss the first 1-2 seconds of sound in a movie when starting to play it. Also how is the HDMI video quality on the Denon and the Sony? I will be using 2 speakers and a subwoofer.

Both will pass the video through - they will not influence the signal.

I would get the Denon simply for the Audyssey EQ. Plus Sony does not have the best reputation for receivers. IMO, the Denon is the better buy and better quality unit.

Between those 2, Denon definitely. cleaner sound, and is a much better brand for receivers than Sony.

I got the AVR-590 but cannot recommend it. I've had terrible problems configuring and fine-tuning the unit. The B&W menu is terrible and makes using a manual EQ virtually impossible - how can you make fine details without a graphic EQ is beyond me. There is apparently a nice AnyNet feature here that lets an AnyNet-capable TV communicate with the 590. Beyond that, it's been a real mess for me.

Just my thoughts - maybe I'll change my mind after configuring it properly..

I bought the AVR-791 and absolutely love it. I was a big Yamaha fan before this but the Denon sound is so much cleaner. Have you checked Batpigs Denon manual out on the internet yet? It helped me greatly on setting up the receiver as the manual does suck bigtime. What kinda speakers are you running and do you have a subwoofer?

I'll second the Batpig recommendation and I'd advise you to check out the Audyssey FAQ over at AVS. I have the 1910 and it sounds much better for music and movies with the Audyssey Multi and Dynamic EQ enabled.

I have a KLH 5.1 that I had with my old AIWA and they worked really well. The only reason why I haven't thrown this thing out into the street is because of Batpig. It really helped to keep my head from exploding. The speakers are not in the best position (they still need to be hung from the ceiling - I have the L&R by the TV and the Surrounds on the same wall. I know it's not the best set up but I ran this with the AIWA and had nothing near these troubles. I have pics of the set up on my profile.

Besides this, I'm also having two other issues: I programmed my Sony BDP-s270 into the 590 remote, and all the buttons work except the 'enter' button. How am I supposed to select anything without the 'enter'? I tried all four settings, along with the analog DVD codes. The other issue deals with my pass-through when the receiver is on standby - each time I turn on the TV and just want to use my HTPC, the screen goes black and I have to re-select the unit to see it pop up on the screen.

Any thoughts on these? I'll check out the AVS forum - thanks for that muppet.

The first code Denon gave me for Sony Bluray players was the one that worked.
