Oliver Stone's Salvador (1986) has received a preliminary release date: January 29. Nominated for two Oscars - Best Actor in a Leading Role (James Woods) and Best Screenplay.

Good to hear. There's only one user review at bluray-disc.de who says that while the video quality is certainly better than DVD, he wouldn't buy it again. I decided to take a chance and included a copy in a recent order from Amazon.de, hopefully arriving in a few days.

The documentary "Into The Valley Of Death" was great

I loved at one point when Stone says he ordered "Ramone" one of the xtras to go f@#$ one of the producers so he could take her mind of trying to censor his movie which was starting to piss him off

Always had a love/hate relationship with this film (bit like Platoon). Nobody to like and certainly difficult to relate to. Real scumbags in fact.

I may give it another spin now as those special features look interesting.

Yeah, there's German subtitles and English subtitles (choose 3rd option when film has started) when important Spanish parts or places names etc are spoken.

Locked to B. Fab video/audio transfer.

WHENEVER a film affects me like that, I realize IT IS THAT GOOD !

Even though Stone's politics, in general, are a little shakey to me.

"Choose 3rd option when film has started" part of the comment pretty much confirms what you ask. Third subtitle track has English subtitles and movie does not have burnt-in subtitles.

BDinfo can be seen here. According to that there are three German subtitles but the third one must be the English subtitles mentioned by The Driver. I assume that the first track is German subtitles for Spanish/location parts when German dub is selected and the second one is the full German when English audio is selected.

Btw, is this the same transfer as the recent Twilight Time release?

I hate video generated subs.

I think the Twilight Time release has burnt subs so probably not the same transfer.

Too expensive for me to find out.

I was hoping the German BD would be the cheaper option, but without the original subs...

I have this in the German edition, region B locked. I've got a Samsung multi-region player, does all the As and Cs AND the Bs, but for some reason it will not play this disc. I am getting a Koch Media message on the screen stating "Sorry, this Blu-ray Disc is only for Regioncode B"

Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?
