Hello everyone, thought I would try to recruit some help from the knowledgeable folks here.
My RPTV recently crapped out on me and I have been out looking at picking up a new tv, well looking and debating whether I should just fix it or not. I have in mind a few different models but it is really hard to compare prices sometimes when I read people posting what great deals they got as the prices in Canada are usually much higher on consumer electronics. I have priced out a few tvs, please keep in mind these are in Canadian dollars and we have 15% tax. 1. Panasonic 54" V10- Very hard to come by around here but I found one for $2999 and they wont move on the price. That doesnt include tax or warranty. 2. Panasonic 54" G10- I can get this for $3100 taxes in and with a 5 year warranty. 3. Panasonic 58" Z series- Only one left and is a floor model. $3400 taxes in and 5 year warranty. I am not too sure what would be the best deal or bang for my buck and I don't want to wish I got something else shortly after. I was also entertaining the idea of a Sony 55" V5100 for $2299 plus tax and warranty or 52" XBR9 for $2799 plus tax and warranty (but have seen this as low as $2399). I am leaning toward the plasmas as I don't know how well those Sony models handle judder and motion blur both issues I noticed on a friends Samsung set that I dont want to deal with, and I am not a fan of the look motion enhancement produces. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! |

so of the 3 Panasonics, i wouldn't get the Z series because i can't stand silver TV's, although, the wireless HDMI media box would be nice. It may not be necessary for you. the G and V series are very similar. But the V series has a few advantages. The V series can display 24fps content at 96hz(G series 60hz). Some people think this is a big deal, but i don't. The V series also has Studio reference mode/Pro Setting menu and one more HDMI input. You're best to check the instore demo to see if these features are important to you. |

Actually, the G series can display 24p @ 48Hz, which is the proper way to view on that set. Some complain of flicker, but it looks like what you'd see in a real theater...I use both.
I believe the Z series he was referring to is last year's model (PZ). If it was this year's Z1, @ $3400 Canadian, I'd be on that like white on rice. Even last year's model, a very nice display, but given that it's a floor model, I'd shy away. My vote will seem obvious - I'd go for the V10. Form factor alone is worth the extra cash. It just oozes class hanging on the wall with the one-sheet design...and then there's the 96Hz 24p mode, plus all the extra adjustments (including black extension, which I use, and does make a difference). With the Kuro gone, it's the HDTV Holy Grail. |

Stay away from the Sony 52V5100. I compared this and the Z5100 from Sony and it couldn't compete with the TC-p50G10 I just bought. Not even close.
If you have the money then just get the V10 series. You will love it. Heck you will love any of the panny plasma's.. |

Thanks for the responses guys.
My first choice would be the v10 as well, the 96hz was a good selling feature to me, and the glare I worried about didnt seem bad in store. But as I said its a hard set to get around here and I am not sure if I can find it cheaper than 3grand... Which was more than I wanted to really spend right now (one of the reasons I was looking at the Sonys). Timing just really sucked for this, with Christmas around the corner and we just dropped a couple grand on a new couch. Talked it over with my wife last night some more, she was saying why dont we get something smaller and cheaper now that can go in the bedroom later when we have the coin for another big screen. I can see her point there, but I dont really want to go from a 51" down to 42" in the livingroom, exp. when we sit a good 10 feet away from the tv. I am thinking of maybe repairing and saving up for something down the road.... but I do want a new tv ![]() |

If it were me, I would absolutely go with the V10 To me is the NEXT best display next to the Kuro. The Samsung B8500 is very nice, but not worth the money and the TV now has issues. I have 2 friends with the G10 Series and I gotta say I was also blown away by the picture quality. Pound for pound Panasonic gives you the best bang for you buck (and I have owned Panny's in the past and I own a 60" Pro 151 Kuro elite, and a 50" Kuro 5020FD non elite) |
