Hello,
i currently have a new blu-ray player. I am looking to purchase a home theater system. Most home theater systems I have found already come with a DVD player. Can I connect my blu-ray player to the HTIB system? Mike |

it depends on the system and the player. you have to look at the specs very closely. some htib systems with a dvd player only have outputs, not inputs. what player do you have? if your planning on spending 3-400 i would also suggest buying seperates which may require you to save a tad (maybe 5-600) but youll be a lot happier with the results. just my opinion

I currently have the Sharp BD-HP22U blu-ray player. Just like you said MOST of the systems I have seen only have 1 HDMI output. Thanks Mike |

A matched theater system would work the best for me. I;m looking for one that has a set of floor (tower) speakers but DOES NOT have a DVD player. I need just a receiver that I could plug my blu-ray into as well as my HD Directv box. Thanks Mike |

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882120144 No built-in DVD player! It comes with two tower speakers, a receiver that has five HDMI inputs and one output leaving you with three more HDMI spots open if you ever add more stuff. Also, the receiver decodes hi-def codecs (DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD). It's only $700 (plus taxes where applicable). It's a little more pricey than the Yamaha you pointed out but it still looks like a pretty sweet deal! |

Like the Yamaha you first suggested, it only has "pass-through" HDMI ports; its audio is limited to optical/coax (DD/DTS or LPCM 2.0). Not a good idea for BD.
The good news is, according to your player's manual it will handle TrueHD & DTS-HD MA either way--i.e., decode to LPCM 7.1 *or* bitstream to an AVR with decoder. Thus, you can look at cheaper, mostly older-model systems that accept multichannel LPCM over HDMI but don't decode, as well as systems with decoders. I would recommend the latest version of my Sony HTIB ($300-350), but towers are important to you & its low-ohmage speakers leave no upgrade path, so that's not a good idea. Thus, I'd say your best solution so far is the $700 Onkyo from Newegg posted earlier--either that, or a stand-alone AVR with LPCM-over-HDMI inputs and a set of tower speakers. You might also want to look for an HTIB with BD built-in; I think I've seen a few at Best Buy with tower speakers for less than the Onkyo. The one good thing about those is they *should* handle HD audio without further connections, so the lack of HDMI inputs shouldn't be a problem. Optical (most likely) or coax should be OK for your satellite receiver. AFAIK, all surround-sound broadcasts in the U.S. (OTA, cable, satellite, etc.) are in DD; a few may be in DD+, but no broadcasters use HD audio. (In fact, though I could use HDMI audio for my AT&T U-verse box, I prefer HDMI direct to TV & optical to HTIB because it recovers from channel changes twice as fast as HDMI audio.) |

Thoughts on this one. I can live without the tower speakers if I have to and this system is rather compact which will help with my room issue. I listened to it yesterday and it doesn't sound bad. Hhgregg has it for $299.00 Mike |

![]() I know it might be difficult to spend more, but I suggest you wait till you can afford something you can enjoy for a longer duration, not to mention better quality sound too. Thats why going the route of separate components usually works out best. U can start small, but can still hear the sound, and then build upon it and notice improvements as you go along. |

In looking up your sharp player on sharps website, I can see that you only have an HDMI out, Toslink ( Fiber / Digital out ), and the standard right/left RCA audio out. Are you just looking for better audio than your TV speakers ?

I have 2 jbl N24 bookshelf speakers. They are connected to an oldddddddddd Kenwood amplifier and the amplifier is connected to the TV via AV input. I control the volume through the TV volume. I am looking for something better. I'm not looking for GREAT. I'd like to beable to connect my blu-ray and my HD Directv satellite box to a receiver and control the sound through the receiver vice the TV. Mike |
