Default BD vs Movie theater

Does anyone else hold off on seeing movies in the theater and just Blind Buy BD like myself? I've only done this with a few movies and D9 was one of them.
The main reason i've started to do this is b/c my girlfriend and I watch alot of movies together and it seems almost smarter to buy the BD then go to a theater..(in some cases)

My girlfriend and I watch a lot of movies too, thats what our netflix account is for. I still head to the theatres when it's something I'm really excited for. For example I saw Inglorious Basterds in the theaters and more recently I saw The Road.

Nothing beats seeing a real film projected on a big screen, although BD sure is sweet.

I also saw Inglorious basterds in theater and preordered it on BD. My theaters here don't impress me as much as a blu. The size is a plus but i feel the pq doesnt doesn't even come close to BD.

The act of going to the movie theatre is enjoyable, but with concession prices where they are, I don't disagree for people to just watch at home. The thing for me is actually the sound because I don't have a sound system in my apartment.

I feel the same way. Casino Royale is a perfect example; the picture did not wow me in theaters but it sure does on Blu-ray. I don't really mind the prices at theaters but that is mostly because I try not to think about them.

While I love seeing a movie on the big screen, some of the people I see movies with prefer to sit toward the back and it seems like the same as watching a movie from the couch in terms of how much of your vision the screen takes up.

As soon as I get a place with enough room for a projector, I'm getting a really nice 1080p projector and a 120" screen. Coupled with my sound system, I'll be pretty happy

I'll still go to the movies, but only ones that I'm excited to see. Netflix can take care of the rest

how do you like your Onkyo set up? i was thinking about the one you have or the 607. I don't plan on getting a true HT until March 2010 or so. Should I wait until a newer model comes out? I'm pretty clueless with audio. I have a Sony HTIB right now it's horrible!!!

I remember way back when you had to wait for almost a year to get a movie released on DVD.

I prefer BD, but there are some flicks that just have to be seen in the theater.
Star Trek 09 and Terminator: Salvation for example.

I honestly don't know how you guys can compare a Movie Theatre to a well set-up Blu-ray home theatre.

I think the movie theatre is just rubbish... To me it's all about filling a room with a 100 or so seats for $17 (au) a head.

Half the time the screen is crooked or not lined up properly. It's fairly blurry, the image clarity if pretty shocking.

The sound is good but i highly doubt they utilise True HD/DTS HDMA.

Worst of all, when you go to a popular screening and your sitting next to someone that cough's, breathes on you, rustles there popcorn or lolly bag.

I recently went to one of Australia's best Home theatre dedicated stores and they have 6 Showrooms setup from an everyday home theatre room, to something that takes months to build but still being a home theatre. To say the least, the ultra-high end room, costing more than $200,000 (au), was absolutely... unbelievable. I literally had to look around myself to make sure i wasn't being attacked by the lion in "I am Legend".

My 2 cents - I will ALWAYS prefer my system over the Movie Theatres.

I rarely go to theaters anymore and when I do all I think is "I can't wait to see this on blu!" I never EVER go to a movie on or around release day anymore as I hate being surrounded by inconsiderate people....there was this incident when Two Towers was released, some things were said and long story short I ended up leaving before the other guy got back with security. I ended up seeing it the following monday in the early afternoon to an almost empty auditorium.

I miss going to the theater. Like others have mentioned, I don't go to the theater because of all of the extra noise from the other viewers. Without fail I seem to pick the seat next to the noisiest eater in the place.

Even my modest room(less than $5000 in equipment) is better than most theaters. Plus I can watch sports in high def without getting beer poured down my back, so it's better than going to games also. When you consider drunk/stoned teens, babies, phone calls, and just inconsiderate morons(eaters, talkers, complainers) a theater just isn't an experience I wish to engage in any more. When I finally get around to setting up a projector, there will be no comparison.

ive never been a big fan of the theater personally. PRices suck and now that I have a BD player I feel the images SUCK... I cant wait to watch the princess and the frog on BD as it seems like it will look a lot nicer on than it did in theaters.

I honestly probably blind buy 90% of my movies - If it looks good to me based on previews i've seen or word of mouth I pick it up. If its something Im really excited about i'll head to the movies to check it out too.

I don't go to the theatre anymore last film I saw was "I Love You Man" in April.

I will make an exception for AVATAR because that should be seen on the big screen at least once
