Default Best DVD upscaling: PS3 slim or LG BD 390?

I'm trying to decide between these two. I don't game but have read enough to know the PS3 is still a viable option as a Bluray player.

What I am most interested in is the picture quality of DVD playback. My primary use will be watching movies. I know the Bluray will be similar but wondered if there was any noticeable difference in the DVD upscaling between the two.

I also like the idea of having Netflix and will likely utilize that feature as well. Any advantages with either unit in that area?

Yes I know there are probably better players for DVD upscaling but I'm trying to narrow my options and I don't want to spend much more than $300.

Thanks

Well can't say for the LG but I do love the upscaling on my PS3 Slim.

I haven't done it myself to be honest but I haven't heard a single complaint from anyone yet.

It's great, I use it at least twice a week. Mostly for kids movies, everyone needs a nap sometimes.

sony and most game makers keep the prices from fluctuating in their systems thus 300 bucks wont budge while various other cheaper blue ray players budge all the time just look at black friday and christmas. Thus if you vlaue our money get one of those when it fluctuates around 130-80, much better deal. Think about it - for the price of a ps3 you can get a normal player with also netflix and othe goodies and like 6 blue rays.

I don't own either, but after researching a purchase for a couple months what I have gathered is that the LGs have slightly poorer image quality in general (BR or SD DVD) than most of their competitors.

The PS3 Slim I own is not as smooth in/ejecting disks as my original 60GB PS3. Seems clunky whenever I or the wife insert or eject a disk. I just assumed the mechanism was a cheaper trayless model than what they originally used.

I miss the original PS3, but its dead.

In this price range, you may want to consider the Sony BDP N460.

It plays BD and streams many media formats including Netflix, including a number of streaming sources not supported by the PS3. In many ways, it is a PS3 without the games.
