Default Speaker Wire

Where is the best place to get speaker wire at, and what kind would you recommend? I know Best Buy has it, but I imagine there is better quality stuff out there, and I know there is stuff just as good for a fraction of the cost - I'm just looking for a reputable place to get it.

Monoprice.com has good inexpensive speaker wire.

A step up is BlueJeansCables.com. They can put the connectors on the wires already for you.

^^^ What Lou said.

These have caught my eye on the relatively cheap, for what looks to be a very good product.

Is MonoPrice usually slow? I ordered a few days ago and the shipping has been stuck at "Billing Information Recieved" for two days.

Monoprice FTW Don't buy from retailers like Best Buy unless you need it NOW.

Check your local high-end audio dealer. They sell speaker cable by the foot and you'd be surprised in that it doesn't have to be expensive.

Bought 75 feet of 12 AWG from Home Depot for $35.00 yesterday.
They have a spools of different size guages.
Seems to be of decent quality.

Default Speaker cable

I bought some 'good' Monster wire at Best Buy when I was setting up my home theater. Monster does not label the gauge of the wire. When I opened it I realized it was 16 gauge. Waaaay to thin for my tastes, especially with a 50' run. I returned it and bought some nice thick cable from my speaker company (Aperion). A little (OK- a LOT) pricier than Monoprice, but I'm very happy with it.

I bought 200 feet of 14awg from Monoprice for about 34 bucks. Moving this weekend so going to rewire my 7.1 but I did make a visit to Home Depot and saw they have some spools 16awg nicely priced.

14awg is better then 16 (just making sure you know). Price wise it's really hard to compete with monoprice for quality.

This post is a little old, but I think the cables are a rip off. In most insulators the total electron storage (capacitance) would accounts for less then 10% of a db. It depends on the length of the cable and the amount of energy involved but it's almost impossible to them to release enough stored energy to be audible. The 'break in period' on cables is such BS. I dare anyone to find a peer reviewed paper that suggests that dielectric capacitance becomes more efficient with use. This is a load of hogwash, don't waste your money on it.
