Default just got back from bb, and got one of these..

went to bb today with a friend, not looking for any pj. but noticed many boxes up high of various pj. epson 6100, sanyo plv-z700

the sany was on clearance for $719

epson on clearance $699

we both grabbed the 6100's and ran

replaced my hd65 tonite....wow what a difference..

OP I use the very same projector but paid significantly more, but then again I live in Australia where everything is expensive. Anyway, if you want some of my calibration settings just let me know. (It looks insanly good once calibrated properly).

My settings are as follows, which should provide a very accurate image. [edit: whilst this is still true, my more complete calibration is on page two, I accidently uploaded the wrong settings, although these are still very good and depeding on if your blu ray player cannot use expanded color are the best, so i'll leave them here with the better calibration on page 2].

Color Mode: Theatre Black 1
Brightness: 3
Contrast: -2
Color saturation: 6
Tint: 0
Sharpness -4
Color Temp: 6500
Skin Tone: 0
Brightness control: High
Auto Iris: Normal

Also got to advanced, and set gamma at 2.4.

In the advanced menu go into the RGB menu and set the options as follows:
-10
0
-2
-6
-6
-8

Next go to the signal menu and then select advance advanced.
Noise Reduction: Off
Epson Super White: Off
Output Scaling: 100%
HDMI Video Range: Normal

Let me know how it works out for you, but this should give you a very accurate color reproduction, the green is a bit off, but only slightly, if I manage to tweak it further I shall let you know. Enjoy.

Good steal... they are just clearing them out. The 8100 is replacing it.

Wow that is an awesome deal!!! Congrats on the new projector. Do you notice a huge difference coming from a 720p projector?

I'm going to check a couple Best Buy's today and see if I can find the Z700. I need the anamorphic mode on the Sanyo. I hope I can find one, thanks for the heads up.

marginal on hdtv, not much. when i put in blu ray, it was pretty substantial. the clarity (106") was awesome. i had just watched terminator salvation last week on the hd65 so it was a good comparison for me, and it was dramatic..

make sure you go to the bb, some of these people don't really want to look when you call. go in and check the top tier shelves....in nh i found 4 stores with the sanyo's for $719

Did you try out my calibration settings? If so, what did you think of them?

Great buy! I also have the 6100 and I love it. Very bright when you need it to be. Suntory what type of screen material are you using for your calibration. I have a Elite Cinewhite and was thinking of trying out your settings. I did mine with DVE but never got into the gamma settings.

One thing with this projector and I suppose all projectors when you are throwing a large image. If you feed it crap it will look like crap. Blu looks so much better than my Dish HD that it is hard to even call it HD.

Wow, I was already jealous of your audio and PJ setup. I'll be interested in seeing some pictures, since your current PJ shots look so great.

Agreed!

Congrats on the awesome deal, ditch-digger. I'll be running out to my local Best Buys today to see if they have anything on clearance (doubt it though - the BBs in my area rarely have anything in the way of projectors).

I had no luck at two Best Buys... They had no Sanyo's left and had only 1 Epson and it was already being held for someone else.

I have 3 in my area, all about the same distance from me. I'm not holding my breath.

the one being held you could have talked out of them....maybe..

as far as looking...just make sure you do the looking..i posted this info on avs as well, and some people are lucking out, others not so much.. i cant stress enough to actually got to the store and look at the very top shelves in the pj area...

example, ma and my friend got ours at the bb in manchester nh, if you asked them they told you no, but there they were just sitting, today i just got back from the bb in concord nh, just last minute shopping. went to the pj section, looked way up....few 8100's one 6100 and a sony model (could not see) now when i got back home just for the heck of it i called that store. "nothing in stock" then went online and checked "nothing in stock for 50 mile radius..????? but there they were...i should have took some pics.

i thought about buying them all up and re-selling. but to much hassle
