Default Movies you loved/hated the first time... then changed your mind

So now that I am officially blu I have been going back to revisit some great films of the past along with some classics I really didn't enjoy. Some of the films that I really enjoyed on first viewings that were not nearly as good on the second visit...

The Boondock Saints
Fast And the Furious 1 and 2 (both had a slight downgrade for me and I had seen both at least 3 times)
Sleeping Beauty - I had watched this for the first time about a year ago on TAPE and was amazed... well watching it on BD amazed me visually but the film was simply a very good one this time around
Gremlins
Hellboy
X Mas Vacation - still a very funny movie but the comedy vaule was missing on my second viewing
HSM 2 - I have watched this countless times and always enjoyed it, but when I tried watching it yesterday it annoyed the crap out of me right away
The Pirates trilogy
Drag me to hell was a slight downgrade from the first viewing
Pineapple Express was not as funny on the second viewing
Superbad - same as above

and some films I was not fond of before but really enjoyed now:
Planet of the Apes - this was my third attempt, and loved it
Fast & Furious 3 - was better than 2F2F and only a little behind the original
Ice Age 2 - much funnier on a second viewing
The Aviator - had tried watching twice in the best and didnt enjoy it, really liked it on the most recent viewing
A Bugs Life

Can't really think of any movie I hated on first viewing improving on the second take...But have watched movies I enjoyed ages ago recently, and felt embarassed on recent viewings Rocky 4 comes to mind.So do 'Popey' by Altman-though two very different movies.

Casino Royale - Hated it the first time but repeating viewing, I think it is a great action flick although it still doesn't feel like James Bond to me

For me it's rare to have a big change of mind on movies.

If I watch something and thoroughly dislike (hate is a very strong word), you can bet it'll never get another viewing from me. Cuz if I didn't like it the first time, why should I try again?? It's not a popularity contest and I could be spending my time doing/watching something else. I'm not gonna force myself to watch again and really really hope I like it the next time.

There have been a few movies over the years that I watched and said 'it's pretty good' and after a repeat viewing, have come to appreciate them more.

Devil's Advocate is one that I remember. It seemed a little slow for me the first time but appreciated it much more the second time around.

Meet Joe Black was along those same lines. It felt like the pace was like that on purpose. That almost every scene was a 'take time to smell the roses' kind of thing.

And then there are movies I've never been able to finish cuz I've fallen asleep.
Ace Ventura
TMNT II
AND POTC 1 (have attempted a half dozen times and cannot make it past the half way point of the movie). I have the trilogy on Blu-ray and will continue my valiant attempt to at least get one whole viewing of each film.

Saw Pulp Fiction in the movies and I didn't like or understand it. Watched it when it came out on VHS, yes I said VHS and I loved it. Guess it just needed to set in.

agreed.

Rented this via netflix when I first got my ps3.

My wife and I hated it. Thought it was a long pointless movie. However when circuit city was doing the buy 1 get 1 I picked it up. (it was either this or ladder 49)

We watched it again and loved it. Even now, when this is on tv we stop and watch it.

Wow you guys have lot of Love and Hate threads going?

It reminds me of “I hate you” in ‘Star Trek IV’ the punk on the bus.

For me personally most comedies always need to grow on me through repeated viewings.....for example, I didn't care for Anchorman intially in the theatre, now it's one of my all time favorite comedies...go figure-

Speaking of 'The Voyage Home'...

When I saw this back in the mid 80's I thought that it was pretty good.

However, after subsequent viewings, that has changed dramatically for me and I feel that it has not aged very well. It is now my least favorite film from the original cast.

Thumbs up

Didn't care for Kingdom of Heaven and There Will Be Blood on the first viewings. Now, they're two of my personal favorites

I did not enjoy Harry Potter 6. I had read the book, and had big expectations for the final battle. Obviously, the great battle at the end was not shown in the film. However, i bought the Blu and enjoyed watching it.

For a few movies I've seen in the last few years, I had expectations going into the theater. When it wasn't as I thought it was going to be, I walked away disappointed. Then I saw them again around 1 year later and loved them for what they were

Rescue Dawn
Shoot Em Up
Gran Torino
There Will Be Blood

Both Blade Runner and 2001: A Space Odyssey bored me or I didn't get them after the first viewings, over time I got them on DVD and saw them on tv...

Now they're both my two favourites of all time!

Also The Good The Bad & The Ugly, man... it was just too long!
Now it's perfectly paced!
