Question Looking for Affordable Alternative to Logitech Harmony Remote and Adapter (BluWave?)

I'm trying to find an inexpensive alternative to the Logitech Harmony IR remote and adapter for the PS3. It's great and all but I'm not spending $300 on a remote control, sorry.

Gamestop has the BluWave by Nyko for $14.99:

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...793&affid=9797

...and I don't mind spending $75 - $100 total for that and a decent universal remote that will work with the USB IR dongle.

Any opinions on the BluWave? Yes, I'm aware of the limitations of the functions but I'm trying to make my home theater setup as simple as possible for my wife so she doesn't have to fumble with multiple remotes to watch cable or a movie. We're using three remotes right because 1.) of course the PS3 has that damned BT remote 2.) My Onkyo HTS 6200 is incompatible with my Scientific Atlanta Universal for the DVR and vice versa (well, you can change channels using the Onkyo remote but that's it).

Are there any decent remotes I can get between $50 and $85 that will work with the BluWave dongle?

Thanks in advance.

The Nyko is the original alternative to the PS3 Bluetooth remote or game pad controller. The disadvantage to it is, it will not turn on your PS3, because the USB ports have no power when the PS3 is off. Therefore Nyko dongle cannot receive signals and control the PS3. Another disadvantage is the lack of a PS button, and in certain situations can be annoyance.

Still, for the cost the Nyko is still a good alternative. I recommend a Logitech / Harmony remote + Nyko for ease of programmability and library of drivers. There are several models that are about in your price range.

Well, I bought the Nyko last night and I went on the quest at NewEgg to find a good remote (they had a shellshocker lat week of a refurbed Harmony for $50) and lo and behold, look what I found:

I'm going to start a separate thread about this because this is the first time I've ever seen a remote that had both BT and IR built in to it so you could control a PS3... and it's $50.

I ordered this and I'll provide updates on my experience.

A Bluetooth remote withn IR. Now that is cool. I wish all entertainment equipment will use bluetooth instead of IR in the future. I would not hold my breath for it though.

That's pretty neat. Please let us know how it works!

One of the reviewers said there's no "activity" type buttons (ie: macros?).

Honestly, I had no idea what he was talking about in that review. I'm thoroughly enjoying this remote (it's kind of weird not fumbling through 4 remotes).

I posted a thorough review here:

Thanks!
