Default CS2 center speaker delivered yesterday!

WAYYYYYYYYY too big for the area I need it to fit in. The thing is a monster! I need to order either the CS1 or the CS10 for size reasons. Any recommendations on either of those 2?

Thanks
Mike

Did you measure the space you have for the CS1 or CS10 as well? Although the CS2 is quite big, the CS1 is big in its own right as well. The only diffrence between the CS1 and CS10 is the CS10 has the glossy black piano finish on the sides, otherwise they are the same exact speaker. Check you measurements for what space you have for a center channel before ordering the CS1 or CS10, it may still be too big......

I did measure originally. The space I want to put it in is 7 3/4 inches high. The speaker specs are 7 3/4 inches high. I thought I would beable to fit it in with a little help. NO WAY.....it won't even begin to go in. The speaker actually measures a bit taller than 7 3/4.

My backup plan was to place it on top of my TV stand but I didn't take into consideration the depth of the speaker. It almost fell off the stand!

The CS10 is $30.00 more than the CS1 on Newegg!

Thanks for your input.
Happy New Year!

Mike

Well good luck and hopefully the CS1/10 will work for you. I have found my CS10 to be underperforming, as I think there are issues at work in my set-up. I have tried a few things, but with no improvement.

Are you putting the center channel in an enclosed area in your TV stand? Be careful with this placement, as you might hear some coloration or resonance with the dialog. You can help yourself here by making sure the front baffle is at least even or slightly in front of the opening. Again, this is only if you have plans to tuck it in an enclosed area on your TV stand. Good luck!

Center channel is the most important speaker for the surround sound system, the bigger, the better . CS2 is big ? Have you ever seen the Polk CS-1000p?

Ya it's almost the same size as the CSi A6 (same h, smaller d/w). Mine didn't fit on the top shelf of my stand unfortunately, had to move it to the middle shelf.

And wow the CS1000p is huge!

it's a shame that the larger center didn't fit,

try to get the CS10, the new TSI series are using newer drivers and components so they are slightly better than the old monitor series.

I'm a Dip Sh^t...........I got it to fit and it fits perfect in the area I intended to put it in.

Now......the issue that I am having is that the dialogue on movies (I have blu-ray) is coming out of the center speaker but it is low and faint. I have to crank up the volume when people are talking to hear them OK, and then the very next scene is a car wreck that blows us out of our seats and scares the sh^t out of us. How can I have the best of both worlds with the sound?

Wrigley, did you happen to read my post above.....I was a little worried that the speaker might be put into some kind of enclosed area.

Here is what I had mentioned about a center speaker being put into an enclosed area:

How far deep do you have the center channel in the area you managed to fit it in? If it not at least even with the enclosure or even in front of it, you can get the results you are having now.

John,

it's even with the front of the enclosure. Also, there is a small amount of room above it. It fit into the area without any resistance. Originally I had thought it would be a tighter fit, but everything turned out OK.

Is the back of the location where the speaker is located open or is it closed with the back of the TV stand? This too will work against your performance.

Lastly, you have re-run your calibration set-up with your receiver right? If so, and you still are having problems, you could look into an SPL meter to help balance out your set-up. This should help with the huge variations between your speakers and the possibility of your fronts, surrounds or sub overpowering your center channel.

Here is a digital SPL meter from Radio Shack for $50

This is also a sticky from Big Daddy on how to use an SPL meter....

The back of the enclosure behind the center speaker is not a solid piece. Plus both sides and front are open. There is about 12 inches of open area behind the center speaker.

Is the calibration an automatic thing done by the receiver?

No, you would need to go into your menu and look for the calibration set-up and run it on your own. Did you get a mic with your receiver, and what kind of receiver do you have?

I think an SPL meter can only help, but in the meantime, can you adjust the channel levels (db levels) for each speaker? If so, I would increase the levels to what is satisfactory to you and then invest in either a better receiver to get the most out of your audio or at least the SPL meter, so you will minmally balance your audio until you get a better receiver.

You have an HDMI passthrough receiver. Meaning, if you are trying to listen to decoded Lossless audio via the Optical cable, it will only be in 2 channel. That is probably why your dialogue sounds off. Youre not exactly getting a center channel signal.

You need to set your player to Bitstream.
