Subwoofer Idiot Question - Blu-ray Forum

I have a subwoofer that has one coaxial input. When a Subwoofer has both L+R inputs, what difference does it make? what type of amplifier would you need, or what would you 'ask' for at a shop. I use an Onkyo 605 which only has one Sub-out, so I would need to upgrade I take it to use one of those more 'powerful' subs?

u can use the same reciever that u have just get a y splitter for the left and right channels and connect that to a subwoofer cable to the reciever in the one output or u can just run the subwoofer cable to the right channel on the sub to the output on the reciever does that answer ur ?

Ok, but what is the difference between the two subs?

Why would a sub need two channels though? Its only one speaker/sub isnt it?

i believe u are talking about the option that some subs have to connect the front speakers audio source (in stereo configuration, ie no X.1 or LFE cahnnel) to the sub and then connect the actual front speakers to the SUB out (L and R) so that the sub amp will take the source signal, divert the low frequency to the sub and then pass the higher frequency for the front speakers.

My current Polk and Earthquake subs both have y-splitters to connect the subwoofer cable. I remember when I bought my first decent home theater package and I was trying to figure out how to hook up my subwoofer and I asked the guy at radio shack for help and he was about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

To the OP, I don't think any question is dumb. It's just that there is a ton of threads on this subject, maybe you should do a little research into your question.
